About Dream Power
Dream Power Therapeutic Equestrian Center, Inc. is a non-profit organization working with physically and mentally challenged children and adults. Dream Power offers sport and recreational horseback riding sessions. Since 1993, we have served Metro Atlanta and the surrounding Northeast Georgia communities of Alpharetta, Canton, Cumming & Gainesville. The Dream Power therapeutic riding program is accredited by the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA).
Why Therapeutic Riding?
Individuals with almost any cognitive, physical and/or emotional disability can benefit from therapeutic riding, driving, competition or other purposeful, safe and supervised interaction with equines. Because horseback riding gently and rhythmically moves the rider's body in a manner similar to a human gait, riders with physical disabilities often show improvement in flexibility, balance and muscle strength. For individuals with mental or emotional disabilities, the unique relationship formed with the horse can lead to increased confidence, patience and self-esteem. Therapeutic riding gives many of our students the opportunity to set aside their crutches, wheelchairs and disabilities as they settle into the saddle.
Therapy experts have found that individuals with challenges respond to the horses with an enthusiasm that can't be matched in the traditional clinical environment. Our horses accept each individual unconditionally and the strong bond that soon develops becomes a vital part of therapy.
Dream Power has provided joyous living & a way for scores of special needs children and adults to fulfill their dreams.
If you can't volunteer, please consider donating a therapy session to a disabled person. See the following link for more details.
