Tallulah Gorge Hike to Sliding Rock

HURRICANE FALLS LOOP TRAIL (hikers only, no pets) Photos by Asha >> Approximately 2 miles, round-trip. Mulched with metal stairs. Rated difficult. • This trail has a total of 1,099 stairs (including staircase to gorge floor) • Please do not attempt this trail if you have any known health condition •
The Georgia Park Service does NOT allow pets into the gorge area. NOTICE: Due to access restrictions on private property, the original Sliding Rock Trail is now closed; however, the Sliding Rock pool is accessible by hiking the Hurricane Falls staircase. GORGE FLOOR PERMIT REQUIRED We will meet at Visitor Center, as you will have to obtain a Gorge Floor Permit from the park, before you will be allowed into the gorge. This trail is all rocks, bouldering, etc... it is NOT an easy hike, especially in summer heat. They only issue 100 permits into the gorge, so be there early to get your permit. Wear your swimsuit, as sliding rock is a great place to slide...and has a lower pool to swim in. A pair of water shoes is highly recommended, you can get them at WalMart for like $20. We will have to wade across the river at the foot of the stairs, the shoes will be great to have for this river crossing. Oh... and I do mean wade... could be waist deep ! Oh... be sure your shoes are not worn out or slick on the bottom, I have seen them deny a permit to people due to bad shoes. Bring a lunch, towel, bathing suit, and PLENTY of water, Gatorade, etc. You will NOT need your hiking poles on this hike, you will be bouldering, crawling, sliding, etc., across rocks... You will need your hands free to hold on ! There are facilities at the Welcome Center you can change clothes in for the trip home. There are no bathrooms in the gorge.... PLEASE go downstream ! There is a parking fee at this park, I think is $5.00 now, unless you have a Georgia Park Pass. Better form up with carpool early !
Those with a GPS, this is the reading for the Tallulah Gorge Park Welcome Center 34*44'23.89W 83*23'25.06W

Correction. Carpool starts at 6.30. Trip takes 1hr 30 min.
You will be there when park opens. This is the only way to ensure that we will get in.
Only 100 people gets to go there.
Thanks Elisa for pointing it out.

Is there an official carpool for this hike? If no, anyone want to carpool? I'll be coming from Smyrna.
