Georgia AT Section #7 Jacks Knob to Unicoi Gap Second Hike

We will be hiking the Georgia section of the AT. We will be doing these in 10 different hikes. This hike we will start at Jack Knob (Foot of Brasstown Bald) and hike to Unicoi Gap

This will be a (7) mile hike. I usually hike at a fast pace but will slow down on these to allow those that want to get the Georgia section completed to be able to do them (around 2mph).

This will be a VERY difficult hike, even if we go slow. If you are not capable of doing long hikes with elevation gains over 1,300 feet do NOT attempt this trip.

These will be slow hikes ( EXPECT SLOW). Our Goal is to let people that don't get to enjoy the trails, have a chance to get out and see the beauty that we enjoy.

If you are an experienced hiker, I would ask that you keep within the group to help with the new hikers. Tell your stories... talk about gear... help them figure out what it took all of us old timers years to figure out.

Bring a lunch, trail mix, snacks, CHOCOLATE, and PLENTY of water or Gatorade.

Be sure to bring Hiking poles, Dress in Layers, Rain/Snow Gear just in case never know about the weather

Do not be late we cannot wait long for you. This will be a long day of hiking.

Sorry for the last-minute cancellation. I kept hoping the weather was going to get better. However rain + cold =no good. You guys stay dry and have fun.

Just want to confirm trial head parking location. I assume this is off Hwy 180, at the bottom of the Spur 180 paved Road that runs up to Brasstown Bald Summit. See you at 10am.

John.... RC does a key swap... you're walking one way... and someone drives your car back to meeting location, which was Unicoi Gap last time. Get with RC tonight if you're coming

Believing in the weatherman, I don't do cold and rain. Changing RSVP early so another can make plans. Some other time.

As I live in Monroe its too far to drive to Mansell. I would like to meet you either at the trail head (need directions and time) or a nearer common meeting place.

I live in Snellville and I meet them many times at the Racetrac gas station in Dawsonville. (RC correct me if I'm wrong on the city name.) It is right on 400. It shortens up the trip somewhat but makes it so you don't have to try and find the trail head.

Driving from Monroe, Dawsonville is a little out of the way for me as I would nornally drive up to Brasstown Bald area via Gainesville and Cleveland (to Helen). I can meet at the starting point (or a point close) if I know exactly where you will park, and what time you expect to arrive.
