Geospatial Amateurs meetup, April 2014

We have a new venue for April! We'll be at Fado Irish Pub in LoDo. Many thanks to Dave Murray for doing the legwork to find a good new venue that would host us for free.

We have the same two great speakers lined up that we had planned for the March event that was canceled:

Building Responsive Web Applications (and a bit of mapping)
Matthew Baker (Opening of Detroit, Rocky Mountain Hemp Association) will show how to build a responsive web application using the Twitter Bootstrap framework. He will walk through the basics of HTML5, demonstrate how to customize a Bootstrap template, and show how to use Aptana to write code and the Firefox Web Developer tools to test. Then he'll show how to extend the application with a Leaflet.js map!

Visualizing Time-Series Data
Michael Giddens (CartoDB) will demonstrate using CartoDB to visualize time-series data using the new Torque functionality.

Quick recap of State of the Map
Last minute addition: Peter Batty will give a quick recap of some of the cool stuff that happened at State of the Map in DC this past weekend!

It was my first Meetup so I can't speak relatively, but generally, I think the location was great. I thought it was a little difficult to hear with all the other noise of the restaurant and the kitchen (below). As I heard someone else say, perhaps a projected screen would keep more people focused and the chatting down. Then again, the main point for many folks is to chat ;-)

When and if they get the projector fixed, this will solve the problem of visibility. The down side will be that the screen covers the beautiful hand drawn map of Ireland. Éirinn go Brách.
