We should really call the group Walking & Talking.
The purpose of the group is to be inspired to get outside and walk ... based on a schedule that fits the needs of people who work full time. The name of the group is inspired by the British walking clubs of Get Walking / Keep Walking. Check out their website. http://www.getwalking.org/why-walk/
Our walks will mostly take place in central Orange County - Irvine, Tustin, Newport Coast, Laguna Beach, Laguna Wilderness, Crystal Cove, Corona del Mar, Balboa Island/Peninsula, Newport Beach. That being said, this is not just a hiking group.
Everyone walks at their own pace, so in the course of each walk, the group usually ends up with a couple of different "packs" - those who want to walk at a pretty good clip (4+ miles per hour) and those that walk a little slower (3.5+ miles per hour). I tend to walk about 4 miles/hour, UNTIL we start an incline. At that point, I get a little winded, walk slower, and the back of pack will catch up with me. I'll walk with them for awhile, and then on the downhill section, I will resume my natural pace and I may catch up with the front pack (those who maintained a steady pace no matter the incline or difficulty). Having said that, walkers need to be able to walk at a pretty good rate, no slower than 18 minutes a mile. We are here to get exercise.
