Sunday@Castle Rock Proper and Others.

Let's meet at the CRSP Kiosk at 8:30.  If you're late you can find us up the left parking lot trail.  Just head up the hill.  It's only a few minutes up.

As a reminder, please read again the GYCO helmet policy and liability waiver:

We strongly recommend you wear a helmet while climbing on a GYCO meetup. If you arrive at a GYCO outdoor climbing trip without a climbing helmet or are unable to borrow one from a peer, you may be asked to clear the climbing area or leave the meetup by your organizer should any safety issues occur. This policy is put in place to reduce the risk of injury to yourself and others from falling rocks and climbing gear so please respect your organizer, meetup participants and GYCO's safety policy.

It was a great time and was good to see everyone! I have uploaded some good shots here https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151803583333844.1073741832.794813843&type=1&l=6a92f87b30

Hey Steve, I was there with the big bus. The ranger came over and said it was $50 to park there! So by the time I reparked out front I missed you guys. Walked to Castle Rock but couldn't find you there - Mark was also looking - hope he found. Sorry I missed the boat. I drove all the way from SF. Just wanted to let you know I tried and didn't flake out. Hope it was a fun day!

    • Steve L.

Wow, so sorry :( I noticed my meetup sign had been taken down (maybe by the Ranger? - I'll work out a more surefire system next time. Yeah, Mark found us down at Waterfall. We had a great day. I hope you were still able to enjoy yours :)

Just so you guys know, I'll be up at Castle Rock SP too and setting up with other friends on Goat Rock South Face. We can cross-pollenate if you like. Will likely be up all day. If my crowd finishes early I'll come and join you.

    • Steve L.

Cool! Are you going to hook up Great Roof, 10b? I've had that on my to do list :)

      August 31, 2013

  • Steve L.

Depending on the turnout, we may hit waterfall instead. This is suppose to be some of the best climbing in the area. I'm picking up extra long slings today. Please check out the approach beta at : http://bayareaclimbing.com/Climbing_Areas.html . You will run into us for Waterfall if you take the right parking lot trail and follow signs to waterfall platform. I'll show you how to get down from there. It's a little bit of a hike so bring shoes. Look for paper plate with map of current location at Kiosk if you don't make it on time. Again, call or text (831)[masked] if late. Can't wait! Thanks!

Bring sunscreen and lot of water - it's gonna be HOT on that wall!

Let's welcome Gregoire :) He's here for 4 months from France. He's an experienced climber who needs a ride Sunday.

    August 29, 2013

    • Hanna V.

That's a shame, hope the finger heals quickly. Yeah I could go to the ironworks on Tuesday.

      August 30, 2013

    • Steve L.

Gregoire, sorry to here about your knuckle. That was a loud smack!

      August 30, 2013

  • Steve L.

So, to accommodate the majority, we'll be primarily setting up at Castle Rock Proper. Aleksei wants to hit some different harder areas. So get in touch with him if you are also interested. My first goal is to make sure that the group is set up for good climbing :)

As Aleksei pointed out, we'll need to start setting anchors immediately. I hope rope/anchor providers will be prompt. For late arrivals, I'll have copies of my guide book map at the entrance. I'll thumb tack them onto a paper plate saying GYCO and highlight the areas we're at. I may also indicate the level of the routes being climbed at that spot. You shouldn't have any problem finding us. Cell is hit and miss but here's my number anyways:[masked]-6358. Watch out for CHP if headed up Hwy 9. The speed limit is a ridiculous 30 mph!

If anyone wants to aim for an earlier start than 8:30 to beat the crowds I'm ok with that.

      August 29, 2013

  • Aleksei P.

I don't mind splitting up heading to different areas (given number of people). Personally I would like to visit Platypus/Shady rock/Chew tooth and maybe doing some lead climbing as well. Brian?

    August 27, 2013

    • Steve L.

Ok, and I just communicated with Nick who will also provide rope, anchor/anchoring.

I took a look in my guidbook at the Shady Rock/Platypus/Chew Tooth area. It looks like there's a nice concentration of 10s there which is perfect for me.

So, let's take inventory. Please come forward if you can provide a rope, anchor or other gear. I have a rope, anchor+ and draws.

I will be there the whole day this time as well. I'm interested in 9s and 10s.

      August 29, 2013

  • Brian

If some want to get there earlier than 9, I'm down for it. Though I can't set up an anchor yet.

    August 29, 2013

    • Aleksei P.

For me CR Proper feels too much trouble (setting up) for a couple climbs worth doing there

      1 · August 29, 2013

    • Steve L.

After briefly looking at everyone's profiles, it looks like at least half would enjoy challenging entry level climbs (9 range). The other half would like to discover their favorite curse words (10-11) range :)

So, the goal is to meet promptly at 8:30 am. But if you find yourself running late, no worries. Look for the paper plate or text/call me.

I have a rope. Should I bring it?

    August 29, 2013

Yes, to be on the safe side :) Thanks!

In prior meetups, women have been greatly outnumbered so I'm adding them first in order to achieve a balanced group. This one is surprisingly balanced so far :)

As of now I have no plans. Would love to join; far from chico. Planning is needed for me. Last minute... Probably a no go...

    August 26, 2013

    • Steve L.

Sounds good! Yeah this weekend might be crazy for a long drive. There will be other opportunities should you need to back out on this one :)

      August 27, 2013

    • Steve L.

Nicolette, sorry you can't make it. I was looking forward to climbing with you again :)

      August 27, 2013

  • Steve L.

Oh, and btw, I can't wait to climb with you all! :)

My vote is for castle rock proper!
