The beautiful red rock contrasted with the deep blue skies, yucca, majestic backdrops, sun shining down on us at the break of dawn. The nigt sky with scattered stars is breath talking whilst around the campfire. ahhhhhh J tree

So save the dates if your interested.
Carpools encouraged
More deets soon

hey guys, sorry I have been able to see this through or coordinate. I am dealing with family issue will prevent me from attending but it appears you are self organizing which is awesome and Matthew from the other Jtree meetup we have posted is helping. THANKS ;)

Hi everyone. I am a newbie on the meetup front, so just a few questions. Was planning on joining you all either friday night or Sat morning for the rest of the climbing weekend. Is that cool to come later? Also, I need a spot to camp and am totally willing to pitch in for a campsite someone else has reserved.
(Not sure which other trip thread you're referring to, Matthew?) I will be driving from LA and would also need a car spot or can park it further away as well. Can also carpool with anyone coming from LA, then going back to Bay area on Sunday.
Sorry to dump all these deets inquiries! Any help is appreciated.
Excited to climb in Jtree again, its been a few years!

      Here's the co-inciding meetup:
      http://www.meetup.com...

If you want to camp in the group site, just put your name and info in the spreadsheet, and contact anyone who's plans coincide with your's. I'll keep checking the spreadsheet regularly so I have an idea of who's doing what.

I didn't know there was already a JTree trip discussion happening when I posted my trip to the calendar yesterday. I've got a group campsite reserved for the whole week. There's a park-rules limit on the number of cars that can park at the site, although the number of people that can camp is much more fluid.
I'll ask that anyone who comes pitch in to cover some of the campsite costs (exact price later, probably ~$20), and ask to please please please carpoool; if you don't you might have to leave your car on the road some distance outside of camp.
If you want to camp with us, let me know on the other trip thread if you're coming, and which date's you'll be there.

Sorry, didn't mean to be cryptic: I haven't located a carpool or a trad partner/babysitter, so I've changed my RSVP to no.

Ok guys, I'm definitely in. I found a ride and I booked a hotel outside of the park for the 27th thru the 1st. If nothing else as a back up. It can accommodate 4. So if we find a campsite, I can cancel without a charge by the 25th. So keep me posted...

Anyone else interested in going for the full week? May be possible to snag a first-come-first-served campsite if arriving earlier in the week

    October 23, 2013

    • denilou

Michael - why not both? Schedule a new JTree trip in Jan or Feb. This far out it should be possible to reserve a group site at Indian Cove or Sheep's Pass.. I'd recommend Indian Cove if we can. Or go for 2 - 3 regular sites at Black Rock? And those of us who still want to go for Thanksgiving will find a way to self-organize and make it happen..

great Idea Denise. You guys have fun with this one. I will set one up for January. so stoked. it will hopefully have campsites and airfares cheaper :) Spoke to Stacie and Lauren tonight at gym. it appears they are a "go" and driving down together. woot. :) Hope you feel better Denise...

I still want to go. Don't have much camping gear but found hotel outside park for 50 /night

    November 6, 2013

Hi all, Denise and I haver been scrambling to secure lodging and it has been a challenge..the last resort is motels or hotels but on another note I have pressing family obligations (ailing dad) so I am wondering if anyone wants to lead the Jtree efforts here? It is easy and worth it. :) thoughts?

How many of you are willing to pay up to $150 (total) to stay in a house just outside the park? Showers, beds, kitchen if we want to cook meals, nice setting. Cheaper than a hotel, and if anyone wants to come down earlier, we'd actually have the house from 11/23 to 12/01.

Total for the house is flat fee of $1200. Will sleep up to 8. Fee is the same whether we take the house for a full week or only the holiday weekend, so I'll get it for the week and those who want to join me early are welcome to do so. I just need to hear from a couple of you to make sure enough people are interested..

Tentatively could join the group for Saturday and Sunday..., wanted to RSVP the last spot.... :)

Hey guys. Lets start thinking about Joshua TRee. Denise Danielson posted information below about a house she can get but it will only accomodate maybe 8 to 10 people at $150 per person. Check out her note copioed again below. I personally am willing to pay $150 Denise so count me in. If anyone is SERIOUS about this scenario please email Denise directly: [masked] - But we still need lodging and it appears we would have 10 others unaccounted for so I suggest getting a house through airbnb.com - Is anyone willing to research this and provide info? And campsites seem to all booked. Last great idea. Get a huge Rv we can sleep in? Anybody want to be the RV coordinator? My hope is we get housing of all stripes for everyone.

    November 2, 2013

    • Mike A.

So the first 8 to 10 people best email Denise soon for a spot and let her know when dates you would be coming up/leaving, if your driving ro flying in, etc. I will create a google doc to capture all of that. Let's get thinking about putting this Jtree meetup in play. woo hoo :)

Hey guys, for this meetup you need need to know how to lead belay. The reasons being:

*Know how much rope to feed
    * Know how to take slack out quick
    *Tangible Experiencing catching fall
*Troubleshooting snagged rope or other issues. I would hate to put you in a situation where you and your lead climber have a dangerous scenario occur.)

If you dont have a lot of experience I encourage you to take a lead class and/or test for a lead card at your local gym and start leading outdoors with pals. I suggest Castle rock park, Mt Diablo, Pinnacles, St Helena, grotto or Auburn quarry as starting points

Also, make sure you bring a helmet, followers a nut tool.

I forgot to ask but who has ropes besides me, Ruth. Henrique, and Pushkar?

I also think we should meet up before meetup to get to know one another as it is good to know who we are climbing with if your new rto group and such :)

Ill cerate a google doc soon and send it to you all so you can put in your details I LOVE JTREE!

Michael, there are bunch of options for around 100 a night, but I don't about camping rules, it looks like you have to talk with owners. I'm still working out my exact vacation days, so cannot commit to booking myself yet.

Have you all scheduled a meeting yet? I'm thinking of going. I used to do more outdoor lead belaying but am a bit rusty right now. Wondering if I should skip it this year.

I'm checking with a couple of private parties renting houses, but rates may be jacked up because it's a holiday week.. last I checked there were still rooms at a couple of decent (not 5-star, but clean) hotels in Yucca Valley

      October 23, 2013

    • denilou

Sooo... I can get a house right outside the park for a flat $1200 for 8 days.. the house will sleep up to 8 (if a couple people don't mind sleeping on sofas); my guess is we could squeeze in a couple more if willing to sleep on the floor..

I would like to come but.... small dog okay?

    October 23, 2013

    • denilou

From JTree Nat'l Park FAQs:May I bring my dog to the park?
While pets are allowed in the park, their activities are restricted. They must be on a leash at all times and cannot be more than 100 feet from a road, picnic area, or campground; they are prohibited from trails, and they must never be left unattended—not even in a vehicle.

      October 23, 2013
