Offered in September, this meetup was a great success and so we set this up for October as well!
Let's spend a weekend learning about climbing outdoors and get on easy terrain in the cool air of the mountains, letting everyone get comfortable with granite crack and face (beginner level, 4th class and 5.4 up to 5.8).
Bring food and sleeping gear and your personal climbing gear and we can have a great two days of learning about movement, technique, and some introductions to outdoor safety and fun. We'll learn about gear and toproping basics, anchors, and the differences and similarities between indoor and outdoor climbing, setting you up for success to SAFELY climb on the rock that is so abundant here in northern California.
We can sleep under the stars or inside the lodge at Camp Winton on the Bear River Reservoir. We will have access to running water, electricity, and basic kitchen appliances- refrigerator, sink, and a microwave.
The drive in to camp is on a dirt road (Forest Service road 8N03J) that most 2WD cars can make but not all, please use your discretion.
Bring harness, shoes, helmet, and any other gear that you have (rope, nuts, cams, slings, etc).
