Let's get your poetry on. For a few years I have been climbing and I have come to use a language unique to climbers - An at-times-cryptic, double-entendre, sexy, & hipster lingo. everything from "Climb on, nice, epic, sweet, smear, crack, dike, bomber, jugs, flag, & so on. You get the idea.
So I thought it would be awesome to incorporate some of this lingo into a poetical form. I was thinking of this...write a poem about rock climbing, how it inspires you, how passionate it makes you feel, why you do it and so forth..
So here is what I am thinking. Write a poem. The criteria follows:
*Style can be stream of consciousness, spoken word or slam, lyrics, couplets, rhyming (non rhyming)
*How many words - 500 or less
*Style of climbing - sport, trad, top roping, bouldering, alpine, ice etc
*How many pieces can I submit? 3 total
*Would I get to perform my poetry in front of an audience? Sure
Please email your poetry submissions to: [masked] for review. Michael Dorame will pick the top 20 poems and then circulate amongst pre selected judges from climbing community - maybe a celebrity, film maker, route sitter, nurse, engineer etc
Your submissions will be judged on style, originality, content or storyline, word usage, tone, themes, & passion!
We will announce winners at a GYCO indoor meetup at Mission Cliffs on a Wed TBA. Then after we will head to Southern Pacific Brewery to award prizes and celebrate winners.
