Gear & Anchor Class - With Richard from the Outdoor Adventure Club

Gear & Anchor Class - With Richard from the Outdoor Adventure Club

Do you want to set up top rope anchors for you and your friends? Do you climb with friends who are setting up anchors? Do you know if their anchors are good, or do you just trust them blindly?

This class is much more than a basic anchoring class, but is  perfect for people who have never set up an anchor before.

The objective of the Gear & Anchor Class is to give you the skills and tools you need to set up your own climbing anchors when you go climbing with your friends. By the end of this one day, hands on class, you'll be able to set up anchors ranging from simple two-bolt anchors to complicated anchors using trees, cams, nuts, etc. You'll also be able to set up anchors that are significant distances from the climb. You'll have all the skills you'll need to set up any top rope climb in the bay area.
Topics covered include:
• Setting up simple 2-bolt anchors
• Setting up simple 3-bolt anchors
• Learning how nuts, cams, hexes work, how to place them, and how to critique their placement
• Setting up anchors off of trees, boulders, belay poles, etc.
• Setting up anchors using 4, 5, or more pieces of gear
• Extending anchors when the climb is far away from the bolts/gear
• Tying knots (you can do it!) Fisherman's, Clove hitch, Overhand and 8 on a bight, Water knot

Richard Bothwell, CFO (Chief Fun Officer),  Guide, Program Director and Owner of Outdoor Adventure Club, will be teaching this all day, hands-on class. Richard has been trained by the AMGA, and has been teaching climbing classes for over 16 years. He is passionate about teaching and making sure you're learning the material. Climbers of all experience levels will benefit from this class.
The class is all day (9:00-5:00). We'll be squeezing in as much information as possible, and working on applying the skills taught in realistic scenarios. It's entirely likely that we'll extend the class an hour or so to make sure you get plenty of time to learn, practice, and ask questions.

Cost: $70 per person
The class is being offered and taught by the guides of the Outdoor Adventure Club.
