Climb at Tollhouse Rock

Tollhouse in January! Wall is low (3,000ft) so it's not so cold (low 70s). Lots of moderate trad and sport. Take a look at this trip report for an idea of the climbing: http://www.supertopo.com/tr/Tollhouse-Rock-January-Satisfaction/t10896n.html

We may rent a cabin near the climbing area if enough people (7+) are interested. It will be something like $50 per person for two nights.  There may be camping options too--low 30s at night.

*Please leave a comment if you'd like a spot in the cabin.*

Also, please be mindful of lead partners.  This area has quite a bit of moderate multipitch climbing.  Thus, we should aim for 1 leader per 2 climbers.  If we have an additional follower here or there, we can manage.  But if we end up with six followers and two leaders, not much climbing will occur.  SO

    Hi guys,
It was a great time with you and probably my best ever climbing experience. Thanks a lot Cameron for organizing this fascinating trip and thanks Phill to being patient with me during the climbs and giving me the opportunity to learn many thing and even lead three long pitches!

Where/when should we meet on Saturday? At the dirt pullout off Tollhouse Rd?

    January 16, 2014

    • Cameron S.

That sounds like a good spot. We are thinking of aiming for 10am at the pullout. I think a few will climb first and meet at the cabin that evening. That works too.

      January 16, 2014

    • Cameron S.

Arg. Looks like the Fresno REI where we are picking up guidebooks doesn't open till 10am. that means we wont be at the pullout till 10:45 or 11. If you want to aim for that, we can roll together. Otherwise feel free to get climbing and we'll catch up on the crag or at the cabin.

Had an AIARE 1 course scheduled for this weekend but that fell through because of too much snow (sarcasm). If theres any room for another climbing let me know! I can lead single pitch sport, just started trad climbing, have a thin rack and rope.

Hey Mike. I don't think we have enough leaders to add you. If you have a partner you can bring, you're welcome to join at the cabin.

      January 17, 2014

    • Mike B.

No partner unfortunately but no worries, just wanted to ask and see. Have fun and be safe!!

How are folks getting down to Fresno?

    January 16, 2014

  • Cameron S.

    Climbing mini-groups thus far:
    Chris-Caro
    Cameron-Tatiana-Homam
    Phil-?
    Angel-?

Phil and Chris - let me know if you're game to take Angel as a follower (or a 3rd, as the case may be) for Saturday. Happy to reconfigure for Sunday.

    • Phill

Either way, sounds like my partner for friday bailed, so I'll just be up sat/sun. 50/50 if I have a partner, but either way would be fine to climb with Angel.

Can y'all confirm that you're in for $60 for the cabin? I'd like to book this thing!

Hey, now that there's space and I'm confirmed is it too late to join the cabin?

Willing to crash on the floor if need be - I'll bring a pad and sleeping bag.

primitive photo-topo of some prominent routes: http://www.mountainproject.com/v/107468447 Maybe a good printing candidate :)

Phil, a good friend of mine, just signed up. he's a very strong leader and would be interested in going up Friday if anyone is interested in going early :)

    January 12, 2014

    • Phill

yeah I'll be heading up friday AM, probly camping, and then joining the cabin saturday night. Driving home Sun afternoon. Contingent on my partner for friday not falling through!

      January 12, 2014

  • Kim

I don't have any lead experience. Please advise if I should join.

    January 11, 2014

    • Cameron S.

Absolutely, Micheal. You should come. We have 10 people for the cabin right now (3bedroom). Trying to get some folks I recruited to join gyco and rsvp :) That should happen today or tomorrow. Do you want a spot in the cabin? I believe the beds are spoken for.

      January 12, 2014

    • Mike A.

Thanks Cameron. if I can hitch a ride with Caroline and Chris I'm good to go. Sleeping in a bag on the floor works for me after all I am a climber ;)

Please respond to this thread if you are going to be leading. I have closed RSVPs because I think we presently have 1 leader and 4 followers (correct me if I'm wrong).

      Re-opened :)

I plan on leading and partnered up with Caro. Depending on the route I would consider going as a party of 3 with someone else.

      January 10, 2014

  • Elizabeth

I have never been to this area but I can lead some easy stuff (5.8, maybe 5.9). Anyone know if this is dog friendly though?

    January 9, 2014

    • Tatiana

The cabin we're considering is dog friendly, though, if you're ok with your pup staying at home for the day.

      January 9, 2014

    • chris f.

I was on that last meetup. The approach had a couple exposed (4th class-ish) areas that a dog might have trouble with and might not be safe. Although, with help I think it would be possible. The other thing is the routes we did ended up topping out so a pup would probably be lonely while climbing.

      January 10, 2014

  • CaroCaro

Is it ok if my +1 wants to join us? I didn't see the option to add. We'll be down to share a cabin.

    January 9, 2014

    • CaroCaro

Totally understood. Just got partner (Chris) to RSVP so as not to confuse the headcount.

      January 9, 2014

      Thanks!
