I had SUCH a great time with all of you. Thanks to everyone who gave me good belays, good beta and good laughs. Thanks especially to Walter and Tracey for organizing such a great trip and making sure folks were safe, happy and included. I'm looking forward to doing a heck of a lot more sport leading outdoors... I think it's the best thing since sliced bread and I can't get enough!!! Meanwhile, I'm climbing at PGSF regularly. Feel free to ping me if you want to join on any given evening / weekend.

Thanks everyone for a fabulous weekend with great people, great climbing and great weather. I hope you all got home safely as driving was probably the more dangerous part of your weekend. Walter and I will certainly put another meet up event together in the future and hope to see you all again on the rocks.

  • Moulik

Me, Homam and Paul are at the cafe. Anyone planning to join?

    August 2

    • Michael D.

Moulin give them a few minutes. We typically say between 8 and 9am give or take a few :) if they take too long I would encourage you to head toward Green phantom bridge and park around there or across the street at School rock. Both crags will be areas that will keep you busy for hours and everything is such close proximity that there is no way you won't not see anyone. Have you texted Walter?

      August 2

  • Walter M.

Does anybody have space to bring Eric Reed up in a carpool ? He is a regular member of GYCO and an awesome climber. It would be great if someone could squeeze him in. His previous weekend plans (which probably involved parasailing from huge distance) just fell thru and his first thought was US ! He wants to leave tonight - pretty much anytime.

    August 1

    • Eric

Thanks Walter, yup, that's me. I'm in SF now & have a Subaru Forester -- we could take my rig or I could squeeze in with you and your peeps.

      August 1

    • Walter M.

Hi Eric. Sorry I couldn't carpool with you. I wasn't even coming from SF. I was up north at a friend's going away party. Next time I'll carpool with you. If you still come and don't get to parking lot by 9am look under the bridge for us or up the road a half mile at school house rock. Sunday will be big Chief. We have a place for you to sleep comfortably.

      August 2

  • Sergey S.

Sorry guys, we have to bail, there's a conflict as I mentioned earlier.

    July 31

    • Michael D.

Sergey. In the future if you are aware you have conflict that I assume is urgent in nature please change RSVP sooner than later or make sure your 150% sure before you sign up for a meet up. Weekend meet ups where carpools and camp fees are involved are more impactful. I paid $80 bucks out of my own pocket so losing money impacts me. We love having you so it's more us not getting to climb with you. I mean that in a very compassionate Way. You take care of your emergency. Cheers

      July 31

    • Sergey S.

sorry, the circumstances only came up sunday-monday, and I only knew for sure half day before I changed to No

      August 1

  • Brian

I'm gonna plan on meeting you guys at the bridge at 9:00. I'll be in the white honda civic. Stoked!!

    August 1

  • Walter M.

    Hey everybody.
We have, I think the count is 3, members who are each bringing "+1"s. I'm truly thrilled that our ranks are growing but I must ask for each of those people to please sign up on GYCO meetup. It's a liability thing, dont-cha-know.
If you can't do it before you head out for Donner, please do it in the morning at Tracey's cabin, or wherever you can get an internet connection. If you can't do it on your phone you can do it on my tablet. You already know it's free.
    See y'all soon.
    :)

    Hi All,

Does anyone have two spots open in a car pool leaving from SF Friday night or Saturday morning?

    July 31

    • Meriem B

Matthew, I will most likely be leaving Sunday morning before the climb so I'll be needing to take my own car unless you or someone else plans to leave early as well.

      August 1

    http://www.mountainproject.com/v/junior-high/105735140

    1 · July 31

  • Matthew

On the bright side, people dropping out means I get a spot!

I'm starting out from Sunnyvale, can hold 2 people in my car (maybe 3, but it'll be tight with all the camping/climbing stuff.)
I can pick up people along the way, if there's ride-less people coming from somewhere other than south bay.
I can leave either Friday evening, pretty much anytime after 3-4 or so, or, alternatively, very early Saturday morning, if we want to not have to deal with horrendous Friday afternoon traffic.

    July 31

    • Meriem B

I don't mind driving but maybe we can all carpool with Matthew. Is anyone leaving early on Sunday?

      July 31

    • Matthew

Yeah, you can all pile in with me. I think its best we get there on Friday, unless someone coming in my car knows the area really well; it'll be much easier to meet up with the group and decide where we're climbing. Personally, I've never climbed on this side of Tahoe before, so I'll need to meet up with people who have guidebooks or who are familiar with the are.

I was planning on getting in some good climbing on Sunday, I don't have to be back by any specific time. (Although I really don't want to get off route as we're loosing daylight, either.)

      July 31

  • Kiran

is there a possibliity to get in place of shari

    July 31

    • Kiran

Hi, i will be joining on saturday morning and stay at campsite on saturday night and leave after the climb. Won't need car pool as I don't know my schedule yet for friday/saturday. I have rope and quick draws that I will bring along.

      July 31

    • Walter M.

Excellent. Glad you can come :)

      July 31

  • Walter M.

Hi Everybody. It's getting close now. I'm excited :)
We also have another newcomer: Meriem. She's driving alone late Friday night. Please be on the lookout for her when she's looking for the camp sites, she says it'll be after 10pm or so.

    Hi All.
We just dipped down to 8 at the campground. Larry (+1) had been waiting for a possible opening, so he's in.
Haven't heard from Moe at all so I have to assume he's out.

Here's the list for the campground:
Homam, Jane, Kristina, Larry, +1, Matthew, Moulik, Paul, Sergey, Shari, Stargazer, Wolf.
(Wolf- sorry if I should call you Don, pls let me know)

For the Cabin: Tracey, Vanessa, Walter.

    Everybody OK with transport ?
Everybody settled on meeting places Saturday morning ?

Tracey's been keeping track of climbing gear, seems we have plenty.

    Whoopee :)

If you come in too late so she'll check in with you sat am or leave note. only concern is each camp site is only allowed 1 car each.  not a big deal but host as Walter knows likes to connect. July 29

  • Walter M.

Here's the idea for Saturday morning:

7:30 Wild Cherries coffee house, they serve breakfast.
    8:00 Tracey's cabin.
9:00 Donner Summit Bridge, parking lot.
Just decide what is best for you: eat at campground, eat at restaurant or just coffee at Tracey's cabin.
This is a typical up-in-the-mountains day. Bring enough water and food to get you through until dinner.

    Wild Cherries Coffee House
    11429 Donner Pass Rd
    Truckee, CA[masked], [masked]

    Tracey's Cabin
    15251 S Shore Dr
    Truckee, CA[masked], [masked]

    Donner Summit Bridge[masked], [masked]

Looking at Google Maps and follow Donner Pass Road west as it leaves Donner Lake, it'll wind up through the hills. You come to the bridge after maybe 5 miles. It'll be the first bridge you see, the parking lot is on the right just before the bridge. There is nice top rope climbing at the bridge. Maybe some of us can warm up there before moving less than 1 mile up the road to an area we'll stay the rest of the day.

    1 · July 29

  • Walter M.

Thanks Matthew and Homam for the confirmation. Just waiting now for Jane, Moe, Moulik and Stacy.

We've got about a dozen right now, and a great group of people. Is everybody's transportation worked out ?
Sergey- hopefully bringing Kristina and Matthew + 1 more.

    Ropes:
Homam, Moulik, Tracey, Vanessa, Walter, Wolf.
This is enough but 1 or 2 more is better.

    Who can lead trad besides:
    Wolf, Homam, Walter, Tracey?
    Who can sport lead besides:
    Wolf, Moulik, Sergey, Walter, Tracey?

I'll get detail info about meeting places and times out to you by tomorrow.

  • Sergey S.

Folks we are driving sat early morning and I have 2 spots in the car fcfs. HOWEVER some medical emergency came up here so there's a small chance we might have to leave early ( like 11) on sun, or bail entirely if some complivations appear. So take this into account. I'm in sf and can pick from sf or east bay

Just waiting now to hear from Jane, Moe and Stacy

    July 28

  • Walter M.

    Hi all you GYCO groupies.
Michael and Nobuyuki won't be coming this time. Here are the people I believe are coming:

    Tracey & Walter, co-organizers.
Kristina, Paul, Sergey, Shari, Stargazer, Vanessa, Wolf

These people are listed as coming but I haven't heard any chatter from them yet so please confirm:
Homam, Jane, Matthew, Moe, Moulik, Stacy

Everyone in the waitlist can assume they can come. As far as I know, Sergey is still driving and can take 3 more people. Also, Wolf needs a ride, Sergey- can you pick him up in Oakland please ?
Two more riders can go with Sergey.

The campgrounds are adjacent and each takes 6. I don't feel the need to assign people to one or the other, just show up and fill the 2 campgrounds evenly. Bear in mind the camping is $9 per person. Anyone coming to MC Wednesday night- it would be great if you paid then, everyone else please pay early Saturday morning. I'll talk about gear and meeting times and places in the next posts.
