Yorkshire 3 peaks run/walk

Run or walk the Yorkshire 3 peaks. Some will try to run it, another group will walk it at a more leisurely pace.

Route maps will be provided. There is a summary here : http://yorkshirethreepeaks.weebly.com/three-peaks-route.html, or a detailed map here.

Date is 24th May, meeting around 10am. This gives us 11 hours to complete it before it gets dark which should be plenty (sunset time is 9pm for that date).

Some of us are staying on the Saturday night at Ingleton Hostel : http://www.booking.com/hotel/gb/ingleton-hostel.en-gb.html

Please RSVP and donate if you are interested, also please indicate if you would prefer to run or walk.

Brilliant day Viv. Wind, misty tops and bleak landscapes all adding to the adventure!

  • Katie W.

Yeh thanks Viv, really enjoyed it, and I can still walk....sort of!

    May 26, 2014

  • Harsharn

Thanks for organising this Viv, one of the best days adventures I've had this year.

    May 25, 2014

    • Viv

So glad you could come! The company made it. Good times, and there will be many more :)

      May 25, 2014

  • Viv

A great run with good company. Pretty wild up there, a proper adventure.

    May 25, 2014

  • Arlett

I misread this at first and got very excited thinking I could join you but I guess that was just wishful thinking. Any chance you would repeat this walk/run on 26/27 July? I've never done it and feel like I have missed out. Back in Blighty around that time in July only.

    May 22, 2014

    • Viv

Aw wish I could arlett but that's the weekend of the lakeland 50. You could suggest this event for that date -lots signed up that don't seem to be coming now including Paul Schofield and Rich Hyder so they'll probably be people up for it. Would be great to see you anyway.

      May 23, 2014

  • Sally C.

You're right, I'm still intending to come but don't worry about "(a) can make sure everyone has company at the speed they want to go at " as I could well have to walk or abandon and I don't want to trap someone else with me. I'll be able to meet up with you at the end of the day for a bit of social time and I'm happy to either drive home or stay if there's space (and I've sorted Ralph out with a sleepover). Due to current ankle circumstances, I have to go for play it by ear options.

    May 22, 2014

  • Viv

No probs Rachel. Just trying to find out who is so i can make sure everyone will have company. See you soon.

    1 · May 20, 2014

  • Rachel

Sorry viv I can't come cos I'm working loads around then!!!

    May 20, 2014

  • Viv

Also i am changing the meeting time to 10am as we are driving up that morning and doesn't need to be so early.

    May 20, 2014

  • Viv

Hi all. There are still 17 'yes' on this event but i have a strong feeling that's not realistic as the only people i have heard back are definitely coming are...
    - Me (run)
    - Katie (run)
    - Harsh (run)
    - Sally (run)
And a few other maybes. Not heard recently from Tanya/Joanna/Rachel/Andy/Joel/Lisa etc

Please let me know if there is anyone else so (a) can make sure everyone has company at the speed they want to go at and (b) can cancel the accomodation if people are no longer staying over.

Its fine either way just let us know. Would have been fun with a big group but i'm equally happy if its just a nice day out with a few of us.

Think I might have to drop out of this, sorry. Unless anybody can suggest some potential bail-out options to cut the route short if necessary. Barely done any running in the last month and it feels like a recipe for injury.

Found some interweb. I did all 3. It rained almost all day, years since I've been so cold. Hill fog on 2/3. The mud is sooo slimy I didn't dare do more than jogging speed. Don't do the old route off pen y ghent. Strained lots of muscles trying to avoid sinking in bogs there. Up to knees 3 times.
So basically ended up jogging the whole thing - total time 7.50. I can't get pics up to smugmug off the phone so I'll post a link tmrw

So I'm a muppet. Hadn't changed the date but as I've a room booked, I'm off to go and do it by myself. I'll let you know

    May 10, 2014

    • Viv

That's brilliant - that's what I would do! Sorry about the confusion, I didn't think to check you had the right date. Hope it works out - let me know.

      May 10, 2014

  • Harsharn

Hoping to run most of it, bits I can't I'll be walking.

    May 5, 2014

  • Viv

I have booked a room for 4 at Ingleton Hostel - Me, Katie & Tina so far so room for one more. I think Tanya is going to book another 4 person room for the 3 of them so might be another space free. There are other rooms available there if anyone wants them.
Once the marathon is over next weekend ill get on the case with sorting out other details. Viv

    March 30, 2014

    • Viv

Yes that's fine, you can share with katie and I. Tina has an injury so there's actually one more space going if anyone wants it. If not we will split the room 3 ways.

I wouldn't mind staying over either camping or in a hostel. Is anyone walking the y3p or are you all running ? I can't run it so will be walking :)

      April 24, 2014

  • Rachel

Hi viv trying to get a group from work to come!! is there any fees???

    April 5, 2014

    • Viv

There's no charge for joining in, just asking for donations to a charity I support. I'll sort out route maps and get people together and the rest is down to you. The more the merrier.

Andy and I will be walking, if we can still make it. A few things we need to check out. We may stay in a motorhome, but not definite.

    March 17, 2014

Been thinking about accommodation - ingleton or settle might be easiest. http://www.booking.com/hotel/gb/yha-malham.en-gb.html Any better suggestions.

    March 16, 2014

    • Viv

Other option is Ingleton which is a bit easier to get to : http://www.booking.co...

      March 17, 2014

    • Viv

Just Katie and i so far. Might switch to Ingleton which is closer and they have some rooms of 4 for £99 (£25 each).

Sounds great. I was meant to do this in 2010 then ended up having a rib removed. Andy says do it over 2 days but technically it's meant to be within a 24hour period to be called the 3 peaks, isn't it?
I will have to confirm nearer the time depending on DofE - hoping to run Bronze and Silver this year so that will take up quite a few weekends!

    January 2, 2014

    • Caz L.

I know, if i do it it will be 12 hours. My other half just thinking about spreading it out a bit.

Interested in running this. Just happened across the national 3 peaks challenge too while looking into the details of this. One for the list! :)

Just checking in to see what the most recent plans are for getting signed up and registered...x

    January 21, 2014

    • Viv

Just rsvp and donate if you are coming, no formal registration needed. We will look for some accommodation and sharing transport once we have an idea of numbers.

I did this as a walk 35 years ago with my step-dad who died in July, so it seems a fitting commemoration, I'll have to pick an appropriate charity.
We did it in daylight, 1 day. It was hard work, but I was only 14-15, he was goosed by the time we got to whernside though.
So I'd like to run it if anyone else is up for it,

    January 4, 2014

    • Viv

Aw thats a nice memory, sorry to hear about your step dad. A few of us want to run it so pretty sure we will have a running group and a walking group. Would be good to have you along.

      January 4, 2014

  • Caz L.

I should have said, walking, not running!

    January 2, 2014

  • Sarah M.

Hello, I would be interested in this. The walking option... May need to confirm nearer the time tho if that's ok. Happy New Year! Sarah

    1 · January 2, 2014

  • Paul S.

I tried to run this when I was 16 and it defeated me! So a chance to finally complete it would be great. I'd be keen to do this as a run, or as a walk within 24 hours - but happy to go with whatever is decided. I'm looking forward to it.

    January 2, 2014

  • Gary W.

Hi Viv, hope you had a great Xmas break.

I've wanted to walk the Yorkshire three for a while - never thought of running them though - until now! Sounds like fun.

This is one of my New Years resolutions so I am definitely up for this. I am happy with doing it in 1 day or spreading it out over 2. Happy to go with the general feeling of the group?

    January 2, 2014

    • Viv

Great to have a positive response already! Think quite a few will be up for this so should be a good weekend. Will be a good step up to the Wesh 3000s later in the year :)
