I started this group in Brooklyn. Really, I started this group in Brooklyn during a record-setting winter. The people who were sequestered to warmed bars and patios due to the severe weather turned out to be fair scrabble players and quality drinkers. Soon, our meetings became regular. We were studying up, playing 2 and 3 letter blocking words and calling bulls--t on each other almost every week. I, and others, made some of the best friends we'd made to date. I decided to try GD|PS here in LA and see if I could have as much fun even though it would be with the deficit of lesser pizza and and unfortunate-good weather.
**UPDATE**
This group is already a couple hundred strong and its still growing. The meetings are usually intimate and casual and that atmosphere can be a difficult to achieve with a plethora of folks. To keep it intimate and casual there are some rules members need to follow. Cross me and in exile you will pay:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. You've got to attend if you RSVP barring unavoidable circumstances. People in CA are very open hearted and kind but following through with RSVPs made in good intentions is not a forte on this coast. So instead of confirming with the best of intentions please only confirm only if you can attend.
Please let the people interested in making new friends take the limited RSVP places. All the people who are double-booked or triple-booked for the night can continue to feign being important somewhere else.
1 a. (Quality over quantity people, this isn't friendster/myspace/facebook! Remember Friendster?)
1 b. If a moderator marks you as a no show twice you will be dropped with little fanfare. Unless you count high-fives as more than a little fanfare--in this case you will be dropped to some fanfare.
2. You don't want to play scrabble? Cool: we're not that serious. In fact, I own the Simpson's Edition as well as the classic. More often than not, we break out the Monsters Inc. version of The Game of Life or UNO or something. Bring what you want to try!
3. Follow the terms and conditions of this website.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You might wonder what we all do here so I'll try to fill in the details. First, this is not a group solely about alcohol. Sure we might drink but we get together to play scrabble and drink--I forgot where I was going with this sentence. We get together to drink and play scrabble. Anyway, if you're new to the area or if you're O.G. and you want to meet new, cool, like-minded people then come one come all!
Oh, and bring booze.
Give us a message with a brief description about you and we look forward to seeing you at the next event!
