POSTPONED: GetHiking! in the Birkhead Mountains Wilderness (11.5-mile version)

DUE TO ICY CONDITIONS ... we are rescheduling this hike for April.

Our first big hike! This 11.5-mile loop takes in the best of this wilderness area on the northern tip of the Uwharrie National Forest. Good climbs, good views, nice passages through holly-lined creeks.

This is a joint hike with GetHiking! Triangle and GetHiking! Triad.  Scott will be the leader representing the Charlotte group.

Note: We've added a 7.4-mile option for this hike. See details on the Meetup page. If you prefer the shorter option and have sign up for this hike, simply cancel your RSVP here and sign up for the 7.4-miler.

With the impending storm this week, how ideal would this hike? Is this hike on flat terrain or is there rock scrambling and climbing mountaintops involved?

There are some good climbs on this hike, but no scrambling.

Hopefully I'll get to participate in a hike soon. Currently working out of state until the end of the month.

This is a Certified Wilderness Area. They limit hiking groups to 10 people.

According to the US Forest Service map for Birkhead, group size is limited to 25 people. We'll be splitting the group up, and we'll address how that split is happening soon. Keep an eye out here for an update to the group description.

Anyone interested in car pooling? Hiking groups often have a meeting place and then car pool from there.

The map link to this hike is not working. I've tried it a couple different times. Which trail head are we meeting at? And do you have an estimate of the time to complete the hike? Thanks! :)

You can copy and paste that URL and it should work. I don't know why the link isn't working!
