GetHiking! at South Mountains State Park

At 18,000 acres, South Mountains offers lots of wooded hills to explore. On our hike, we'll cover 11.8 miles of trail, which will quickly transport us from the busiest part of the park, the High Shoals Falls area (though we'll enjoy that as well). Most of this hike is on old carriage road, making for less rocky, less rooty travel.

Lindsey will be leading this hike.  You can contact her with questions via email ([masked]) or via phone [masked]).

OK, guys, here are the trails. Please refer to the South Mountains State Park map for the route, and I will go over this in detail before we start hiking.

Hey guys! A couple things were brought to my attention today I'd like to address.
    - Several people have seen a 10a start time. That is incorrect. Please meet at 11a!
    - The address listed will take you to the park entrance. We'll be meeting at the JF Parking area, which is at the very end of the road once you get into the park.

Looking forward to seeing everyone Sunday!

I'm not sure of the elevation gain on either route, but they're both listed now

Is there a lot of steep climbs? I'm nursing a hamstring and really want to go and think I'll be fine if I take it easy.

    February 17, 2014

    • Jill

Well poop. I better skip. Heart is wiling but the hams are showing their age :-(

Hi. Has anyone done this route before and have a guess on how long it will take to finish?

This is a long hike! I expect the back of the pack to take over 6 hours. The front crew will probably finish in 4.5 - 5 hours.

That's 2-3 miles per hour, which is a pretty standard hiking pace.

Have one opening for carpool from Steele Creek, South Tryon/Tyvola/Billy Graham, South Park or Cotswold. Let me know if you would like to carpool instead of drive .

Looks like a good hike as I've mountain biked this park. But.....I'll be in Ontario that weekend playing in the snow with my Canadian friends.
