Night hike on the Mountains-to-Sea Trail

We'll hike Section 1 of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail along Falls Lake. The trail originates from the parking lot at the tailrace below the Falls Lake dam. This trail has the ups and downs typical of a hike through the coves along the southern shore of Falls Lake. The hike is about 6 miles total; you can find a complete description of the section, with a map to the trailhead, here.

omg what a workout. It might have been cold last night but you didn't notice it once you were on this hike. A very challenging night hike.

Hike Start Location: Falls Lake Tailrace Fishing Area Parking Lot located at the intersection of Falls of the Neuse Rd. and Fonville Rd.

Reference Art's Hiking Maps of the Falls Lake Trail for additional information and how to obtain copies of the Falls Lake Trail Map. Copies of the trail map are also available at some Falls Lake park offices. This newly released (Feb. 25, 2011) Falls Lake Trail map by Arthur (Art) W. Kelley is a must have if you're not already familiar with the trail.

The bridge is open now as I crossed it a couple of weeks ago and the general store now has the another name like the Bike Guy I think.

    Hey Joe,
I'm hoping still you have a headlamp for me to borrow too?!
Thanks and looking forward to the hike!

I have looked at the map but I am still not sure where we are supposed to meet tomorrow night. I really need some road names to help me out. I don't know where the Falls Lake Dam is and I'm not finding an address for it very easily.

Here's how to get to the trailhead/parking: From the new Falls of the Neuse Road, go left on the Old Falls of the Neuse Road. Just before the bridge crossing (which was closed the last time I looked) and right after the general store (on the left) there's a road that turns left. Take that road about 30 yards to the parking area.
