GetHiking! on the MST at Falls Lake (Sections 7 & 8)

We've hiked it three times, yet you have no idea what it looks like. On this hike, you will because we're hiking it in the light of day! Yes, we'll start on our nighttime fave, Day Hike Section 7 of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail at Falls Lake and continue on past TBOT (The Big Oak Tree) to DH Section 8, a remote and lovely stretch ducking in and out of coves, taking in nice views of the lake, and concluding through an expansive run of ferns to the Shinleaf Recreation Area. It's a 5.5-mile hike one way. We'll set a shuttle, meeting at Shinleaf at 1 p.m. for the 5-minute drive to the DH Section 7 trailhead at the Upper Barton Creek Boat Ramp. (Or get in an 11-mile workout by starting at Upper Barton Creek and doing an out-and-back.) One way, this is a beginner-to-intermediate hike, with mellow rollers and no sustained climbs.

    Greetings all!
I can't make today's hike, so it will be se.lf-directed. Here's the basic plan:
    - meet at Shinleaf
    - wait until 1:10, then leave shuttle cars and drive back toward Raleigh, crossing NC 98, where the road becomes Six Forks; turn left after a half mile or so at the Barton Creek boat ramp. The trailhead is to your left at the upper end of the gravel lot.
    - watch the crossing at NC 98' especially if it's rainy and visibility is low.
    Have a great hike!

Sounds wonderful, and I look forward to hiking with the group also. Unfortunately, I already have plans for Sunday.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
