GetHiking! on the Mountains-to-Sea Trail (Part I)

May is Mountains-to-Sea Trail Month, and we're going to celebrate by hiking all 60 miles of the MST along Falls Lake. And no, not all 60 miles in one bite. Still, to cover 60 miles we'll need to do some overtime; thus, we'll be doing longer hikes on weekends and a shorter hike (3-5 miles) mid-week after work.
Our first hike will be the 8.5 miles starting from the Falls Dam and heading up lake. The terrain is rolling, ducking in and out of coves; nothing severe. And if you're not up for the full 8.5, there are options to get off the trail at the 3.0- and 5.6-mile marks. Hike rating: Moderate (based on length)
Estimated hiking time: the last hiker should be off the trail at 1 p.m.

Great hike! A personal best for me. And Brian and the woman in front if me - that castle is the corps of engineers logo. I liked the fairy story better.

Congratulations on your PR, Robin! It's a great feeling to go farther than you have before. Hopefully, you'll experience that feeling several more times this month!

Are we meeting at possum track road or mount pleasant church road?

Hi Ken, refer to the conversation under Gayle's question below. We're to meet at Possum Track - map link refined in the replies included below.

    Joe,
I need some more information on directions. Does Possum Track Rd cross Six Forks Rd? I am having trouble finding a map with enough detail to get me there. ( No GPS device)
    Thanks

Thanks, Terry. Yes, follow the map Terry references. You can find further clarification at this map on the Friends of the MST site. (Note that you may have to move the image around in order to get the trail to appear.) http://www.ncmst.org/...

I'm a little confused too. From 98, I think you take Six Forks to the end and turn left, but I'm not sure.

As of now, I'm coming! I have a Derby Party to attend and don't have any idea how long it will last. If I get home too late, and sleep in, just don't wait for me. I'm early to everything, so If I'm not there on time, just head out.
