GetHiking! on the Mountains-to-Sea Trail (Part III)

Our quest to hike the entire Mountains-to-Sea Trail during MST month continues with this 8.3-mile hike. We'll meet at the Shinleaf Recreation Area, then carpool to the trailhead off Six Forks Road. The hike is through Blue Jay Point County Park, up through the Barton Creek area, then past NC 98 up to the Shinleaf Recreation Area; this area is defined by the Friends of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail as Day-hike sections 6, 7 and 8.

Hike rating: Moderate (length, some up and down).
Estimated hiking time: the last hiker should be done by 1 p.m.

Paula, Wear shorts and layered tops and good shoes or hiking boots. Bring plenty of water, sun screen, bug spray and snacks or a bag lunch. A hat even if you don't wear it and a bandana. I like to wear a small pack. I also carry first aid items, a flashlight, tissues and moist towelettes. Hope that helps you.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
