Christmas Food Service at Next Door Shelter (3hr shift)

Next Door Shelter, in the Tenderloin, is one of two emergency homeless shelters run by Episcopal Community Services (ECS). It is home to 325 people every night. There are separate sections for men and women and residents receive two meals daily.

We will be helping out by serving dinner to these individuals.  This will be a 3 hour shift that will cover both services for Women and Men.

Always enjoy serving, but I was very uncomfortable with how residents were being treated- yelled at, insulted, etc.

Hi Anica and Victor! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I would really love to hear more about what happened on Christmas Day at Next Door in regards to staff. I am the volunteer manager and work very closely with our shelter management team. I would be more than happy to pass along any complaints or comments you have to them. I'm sure they will appreciate them as well. It's hard with a staff so large to keep track of all the bad apples so having volunteers be our eyes and ears is very important to us.

Hi. Erin is under the weather, so just look for me once you make your way down into the basement where the cafeteria is.
It also turns out that the library is going to be used for mass at 4:30p. There was no posting on this on Monday. Anyway, I look forward to helping anyone out

If anyone on the waiting list would be interested in serving in the shelter library just a few feet away from the cafeteria feel free to write me. I'm going to be doing a shift there that is concurrent with serving dinner. You'll need to fill out the ECS volunteer form (I'm guessing Erin has some). Thanks

Hi Melissa, my shift there begins at 4pm. Feel free to drop by then and either continue in there, or move over to the cafeteria if Erin needs help at 4:45. The library door is across from the cafeteria vending machines. Both are located in the basement of Next Door. See you then. Thanks

Response needed from Anastasia, Kay and Anica. I would love to have confirmation that you are committed to coming for the Christmas Service. If you are unable to make it, not a problem, but please take yourself off the list to allow someone else to fill that spot.

This is a special time and we need to make sure that everyone will show up to serve.

Thanks and look forward to hearing from you. Erin

Hello Volunteers! Thank you for signing up to serve at the Next Door Shelter on Christmas Day. This is a very important day for the residents so it is equally as important that we as volunteers be committed to coming, being on time and serving the residents. I have sent each of you an email and am now posting about attendance. Please let me know if you are committed fully to being there on Christmas Day. If you are not, please remove yourself from the list and we will have others on the waiting list move into open spots.

I look forward to hearing from all of you, as soon as possible. Anastasia - Please check your email in your profile. It is stating it is invalid. I was not able to email you and am only able to connect with you via this post. Thank you so much for all you do!
