Project Open Hand - Help Prepare Meals for Seniors and the Critically ill

Project Open Hand is a nonprofit organization that provides meals with love to seniors and the critically ill. Every day, we prepare 2,500 nutritious meals and provide 200 bags of healthy groceries to help sustain our clients as they battle serious illnesses, isolation, or the health challenges of old age. We serve San Francisco and Alameda Counties, engaging more than 125 volunteers every day to nourish our community.

Project Open Hand’s mission is to nourish and engage our community by providing meals with love to the sick and the elderly.

Your shifts at POH will start with an educational orientation and a complimentary dinner. Following you will volunteer in our Kitchen slicing and dicing whole food and helping assemble meal packages for our clients to pick up.

IMPORTANT: It is important to note that all volunteers must be 15 years or older and dress appropriately in close-toed shoes, shirts with sleeves (no tank tops) and full length pants (no shorts/capris/ skirts, etc.). Hats are also welcomed for volunteers who prefer not to wear hairnets. Unfortunately, if a member of the group does not follow the above dress code they will not be permitted to volunteer. Please ensure that all volunteers are aware of the dress code prior to arrival at Project Open Hand.

I am very sorry. Right after I signed, up I noticed there was a wait-list of several people, so I assumed I wouldn't get on, so I drove out of the city. Very sorry about that.

I have to say this is really disappointing. 5 of you cancelled very last minute. We do expect that people have lives and things happen. But this is disrespectful to the organization that you have signed up to volunteer for. They depend upon us and when over half just sign off last minute it doesn't allow enough time for Get Volunteering or the organization to replace you. Please be respectful of the time you are giving and the organizations you are committing to help. And feel free to let us know how we can help serve you, the volunteers, better as we work to serve the organizations and those who need us most, the homeless and low income.

Sorry to hear that, Deepa. Hope you feel better soon! I know its not a fun thing.

Looks like someone else was added on the list. Please take a look and let me know if you are unable to join tonight. Please note that Project Open Hand needs all volunteers to show up for the success of the project and their mission. So please change your RSVP to "NO" if you no longer can join.

    Thanks
    Erin, Organizer
