Introduction to JavaScript & jQuery

JavaScript is a the language of interactivity on the web. Ever used Google maps? Clicked on something to make it appear or hide? Seen a slideshow of images? You have used JavaScript! Learn how to begin and start creating interactive sites. We will be covering basic Javascript, to the JQuery library, dynamic HTML, JSON and APIs (don't worry this will all make sense by the end of class!)

Because JavaScript interacts with HTML elements, we suggest having a working knowledge of HTML and CSS as a pre-requisite for this course.

This class will be taught by Julie Pagano.

This 4-class course runs for four Tuesdays in March:

  • Tuesday, March 5th 6:45-9pm
  • Tuesday, March 12th 6:45-9pm
  • Tuesday, March 19th 6:45-9pm
  • Tuesday, March 26th 6:45-9pm

Due to the restrictions of Meetup's registration, we can't schedule multi-day events, so keep in mind that this Meetup event serves as registration for the entire class.

Please note that classes build upon each other, so it is important to attend all classes.

Note: When you register, you MUST provide your first and last name for security.

Please arrive between 6:30-6:45pm, so that we have time to get everyone in the space and set up before starting class.

Students are required to bring their own laptop for classes. If you do not have a laptop, please contact us at [masked] before registering, and we’ll try to find you a loaner for class.

If you are interested in attending, but cannot afford the full class cost, please fille out our scholarship form.

Please install the following prior to the class:

One of the following browsers:

  • Chrome - Recommended
  • Firefox with the FireBug Extension

A text editor for working with HTML/CSS/JavaScript. Below are some suggestions:

  • Sublime Text (freeish; OSX, Windows, Linux) -Recommended

Hi, I didn't know about this class. Can I start by attending the second session onward?

Sorry, but we can't sign up new students at this point. There seems to be a lot of interest in this class from those who couldn't make it, so we will likely offer it again in the near future. :)

I've tried to learn JavaScript on my own before using online tools, but nothing has ever really lifted the veil like being able to ask a live human being what to do and how to do it and most importantly WHY it has to happen. Julie Pagano is one excellent live human being. :) (And a great teacher!)

It says there is one spot available, but RSVPs are closed - is there any way I can still come tonight?

Unfortunately we cannot add new students to the class on such short notice. This is a popular class, so we will likely teach it again later this year and you'll have an opportunity to attend then. :)

Thanks Karen! I saw that you filled out the scholarship application. I'm planning to review it some time this weekend, so you should get an email update from me then. :)

Would love to attend, but I have a conflict with every Tuesday in March. Hopefully we can offer this class again ...
