Want to learn how to build your own website? Already have your own Tumblr/Wordpress/etc. site, but want to have more control over it? Interested in learning to program but want to start small? Our HTML & CSS for Beginners class is for you!

We'll explore how to use HTML and CSS to build websites, introduce you to the tools you need for the job and put you on the path of using your new skills to work on more complex applications.

This class will be taught by Rachel Thompson.

This is a two-day class on the following days. You should only attend if you can make both days.

  • Saturday, June 22 12:15-5pm
  • Sunday, June 23 12:15-5pm

Due to the restrictions of Meetup's registration, we can't schedule multi-day events, so keep in mind that this Meetup event serves as registration for the entire class.

Please note that our venue for this event is a bit farther out of the city than our usual locations. It is accessible via bus from many locations, but takes a while and requires some walking. Please email us if you need assistance with travel, and we will try to help you out. Please make sure you have viable transportation options before registering.

Students are required to bring their own laptop for classes. If you do not have a laptop, please contact us at [masked] before registering, and we’ll see if we can work something out.

If you are interested in attending, but cannot afford the full class cost, please fill out our scholarship form.

Please install the following prior to the class:

OK, so I'l skip the weekend. I'm just in "something useful to do" mode right now, since my school tutoring ended last week.

I used to teach lab courses, and I know how overwhelming it can get to deal with 21 students. I've taught as many as 25, and only in later years could I hold the size down to 12. I'm an expert on html (translation: I rarely have to look anything up) and competent in CSS (translation: I know how to use it, but nearly always have to look up the keywords). If you would like some assistance, I could be available both days, but I can't do "second floor" unless there is an elevator. I also wrote a program to validate large suites of html: http://www.flounder.com/multitidy.htm. It's a free download, open source, Microsoft Windows app.

We're all set with teachers and teaching assistants for this class. We have your information from the teaching application. We contact people who have filled out the application based on our needs, their background, and fit for a given class when we schedule classes. By the time a class is listed on Meetup, we've already got all of our teachers and TAs sorted out for that event.

If anyone from the Pittsburgh area needs a ride, I have room for 3 or 4 people in my car.

If it makes sense for me to come (accessible second floor, and a desire to have some teaching assistance) I have room for one passenger.

2nding Julie's Google Maps recommendation. I'm not sure about Saturday in particular, I've been told that (from downtown) the 29 stops closest to ModCloth, and the G2 and 28X are also good options with few stops.

thx and yes I have looked at Google Maps but thought I remembered reading somewhere earlier about a bus that stopped right nearby & thought someone could recommend which one was closest esp on sat/sun when one can get stranded on Pittsburgh PAT buses. Sundays esp are dodgy with public transit. I'm not familiar with Crafton other than the stop heading out to the airport. or how far a walk from the station. wil take a look at the 29 route ty

Hi all, are any of you who are attending the class going near the Sharpsburg area and willing to help one of the students out with a ride?

I live in Highland Park which is near-ish. She could ride with me.

I'm running Pyton 2.7.1 -- after some googling it looks like I might not be the only one with this problem, but couldn't find any solution.

Will this class be offered again? I'd love to join but I'll be out of town that weekend.

    May 20, 2013

    • Rachel T.

Hi, Flavia. We're hoping to offer this class on a semi-regular basis. This is the second time this class has been offered. We haven't set a date for another one yet - it all depends on student interest and teacher availability. So long as you're getting notifications from the meetup group, we'll be sure to let you know when the next one is announced!
