Intro to the Command Line

The command line is a powerful yet oft avoided tool for beginning developers. If you often find yourself googling '<new-technology> GUI for OS X,' then this course might be for you! Specifically, this course will cover basics of directory and file traversal, finding and searching for files and content, and using many of the powerful tools (git, grep/ack, man, ps, pipes, permissions, etc) that come along with most Unix Shells. If we're being totally honest, this is an intro to Unix, but it's from the angle of 'getting things done' rather than technical depth or purity.

Note: you'll need a Unix compatible system at your disposal, which means a Mac or Linux laptop. If you don't have one of these, please contact us ahead of time, and we'll see what we can work out.

Please note our refund policy: Your payment of $20 guarantees your seat in the course. If something changes after registration and you cannot attend the course, your seat is yours to sell or give to someone else - just please let us know who! As a rule we don't offer refunds, but please let us know if you have extenuating circumstances.

    Happy Friday!

Here are the slides from the course (with a few edits).

Also, I cut an exercise only slide deck if you want to just work through the exercises and check yourself.

Again, please don't hesitate to ask questions.

Thanks! I remember the idea was tossed out there about an intermediate course. I would definitely be interested!

Okay. Apologies for last minute changes. Looks like 3rd street entrance is blocked by construction. There is a loading area on 4th street that should work.

We're going to be on the 6th floor tonight. I apologize in advance for lack of parking. I'll be hanging out by the 3rd street entrance to the building to let folks in. Cheers everyone!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
