Git/GitHub Workshop

Source control is an essential skill for any software developer to manage their code base, keep track of changes, and coordinate major revisions with other team members. Git is the fastest growing open source source control system today. It's useful if you are working on a large distributed team, or working on personal projects.

In this workshop, you'll learn about how to set up your own Git repository, how to push, pull, fork, merge, and branch and more! Also, you'll set up a GitHub account to easily showcase your projects and learn from others in the open source community. Software is social!

Tech Requirements:

• Your laptop.

• A modern browser with either Chrome and the "Web Developer" extension or Firefox and Firebug installed.

• A text editor. We recommend Sublime Text 2 (It's free and available for both Mac and PC).

Course Cost: $20.00

Instructor: Liz Abinante is a maker: she loves to knit, hack, and bake. Her super powers include knitting, freakishly fast hand raising, speed-reading, and selecting perfectly ripe fruits and vegetables. She is passionate about diversity in engineering and values the cycle of teaching and learning above all else. A graduate of Dev Bootcamp Chicago, Liz currently works as a Software Engineer for Instructure.

I felt good about learning the basics. Looking forward to applying this to my clients websites. It's been long overdue for me.

I definitely enjoyed the workshop. GDI should host the workshop again for those who didn't make it this go round.

I'm so bummed to not be there today. Something came up last minute, but I feel good giving up my spot because I know there are lots of you who want to go. I hope someone has time to get down there in time!!

Hello, I know the class is full, but can people still come? Just in case there are cancellations? Thanks

Hello! If anyone changes their RSVP and a spot opens up, an email will be sent out for others to sign up. Otherwise, we will offer this workshop again soon!

Hello, I got a confirmation email for this workshop, but the Gmail calender has it as Sat Nov 16,[masked]am – 2pm (PST) but this site says 1-4pm. I'm presuming it's at 1-4pm and that was just an email error, please confirm. Thx

That's kind of funny because I ran into the same calendar issues recently when traveling between Chicao and Washington. :-)

Why my name is not under "want a spot" list since October 25? Thanks.

Hi! We don't have any control over the website technical portions - that's all handled by Meetup. If you're still having trouble, Meetup support can probably help you better than we can. :)
