ADDITIONAL THINGS TO NOTE:

Hello everyone! We're looking forward to seeing you in class! A couple of things to give you a heads up on: Detroit Tigers baseball, and parking. When scheduling classes, we try our best to do it on a non Tigers game-day, but sometimes we can't avoid it.

Tigers: Monday's game is at 7pm, and Wednesday's game is at 1pm. There will be extra traffic in the area when we're arriving for class, and we're so sorry for any headaches this causes. Best suggestion: allow an extra 15-20 minutes, and avoid the area of Woodward and Adams, if possible.

Some work-arounds: Coming from the north, try Cass Ave. to Grand River as a way of looping around the congestion. From I-94E, the Grand River exit should get you past most of it as well. From I-94W, getting off at Gratiot is another alternate route. The areas south and east of Atomic Object are generally easier to get through before and after games.

Parking: There's a paid lot across from Atomic Object on Randolph, and another just up the street, and the Opera House parking garage is just around the corner.

If you are running late, no worries - the first 15 minutes of class is us getting settled in. Our wonderful TA's will help you get set up when you arrive.

See you soon!

Are tools or frameworks are being pushed? Or will AO concentrate on straight-up HTML/CSS first using a simple editor and web browser? I started "HTML Prototyping" in http://happycog.com/way. I find their approach confusing b/c they use too many tools and frameworks (Zurb Foundation/SASS&Compass/CodeKit/Mamp) before establishing the fundamental HTML/CSS/JS. Its hard to get the big picture.

Would this be a class for me if I have little experience with html but interested in web development?

    1 · June 3, 2014

    • Chris D.

This is definitely the class for you. I will be TAing the class so I will be there to help and fill in the gaps.

      2 · June 3, 2014

    • Leeann

Hi Nicole! Chris is exactly right -- our HTML & CSS course is a solid introduction to the most fundamental building blocks of web development. It's also totally beginner-friendly! :) Let me know if you have more questions & hope to see you there!

I wanted to find out a bit more about what's covered. Or maybe just ask advice. I've been learning HTML and CSS basics slowly for a few months. So I've done the Codecademy courses and am using Jennifer Robbins's *Learning Web Design* book to make little practice projects. I'm having trouble getting the hang of floats and positioning, but I know the basic terms and can so far make simple, ugly websites. Any organizers have thoughts on whether this is a good class for me to take? Should I wait for the intermediate one? I don't quite feel 'intermediate,' though...

No problem! Great, we'll see you in class!

Also, that book is a great book for beginners. I will be bringing some books to show and am always available for help after the class is done.

Is there another way to pay besides online?

    May 25, 2014

    • Leeann

Hello Wynett! We do not have another way to accept payments; they have to come through Meetup. This is a national policy for our organization. Sorry for any inconvenience & hope to see you in class!

    Hi everyone,

Due to low enrollment, we've changed the date for this class. The class will now take place on Monday 6/16 and Wednesday 6/18 from 6:00-10:00 PM.

We are so sorry for any inconvenience! If you are no longer able to attend due to the rescheduled date, please contact Erika directly ([masked]) and she will arrange a full refund.

    Thanks so much!

Will this be covering HTML5 and CSS3?

    May 7, 2014

    • Laura

Hi Yolanda. We don't get into a lot of HTML5 and CSS3 in this beginner class. Although we do talk about the basics of HTML5 semantic markup.

      May 8, 2014

    • Laura

We do plan to offer an intermediate course that covers more HTML5/CSS3, later this year.
