Intro to HTML/CSS

This weekend HTML/CSS course runs  on Sat, April 6th and Sunday, April 7th from 12:45pm to 5pm each day. This class was originally scheduled to take place at Indy Hall but has been moved to First Round Capital in University City.

Back by popular demand!

Want to learn how to build your own website? Already have your own site and want to have more control over it? Interested in learning to program but want to start small? If you answered yes to any of the questions above, this course is for you!

This beginner course will guide you through the very basics of HTML and CSS to assist you along the way as you develop your own website.

About the teacher: Jenn loves coffee, kittens, and is a leading authority on structural semantic markup and CSS. She has been coding since 1999 and is currently the Interactive Development Director at Happy Cog. Jenn also blogs regularly at the development focused site, The Nerdary, maintains her own site, contributes monthly to .net Magazine, and is, of course, on Twitter.

Tech Requirements:

  1. Your laptop. Note: A netbook or tablet is NOT a substitute.
  2. A modern browser with either Chrome and the "Web Developer" extension or Firefox and Firebug installed.
  3. A text editor. We recommend Sublime Text 2 (It's free and available for both Mac and PC).

You can take a sneak peak at the slides here: http://www.girldevelopit.com/materials. Look for the HTML and CSS core curriculum.

Just wanted to echo all the applause for how awesome Jenn Lukas is. I was so inspired by her genuine enthusiasm and how fun she made it all. The pace was quick and hands-on, but that's exactly what I wanted. Now I want more! I'll be doing the IndyHall Project Meeting this Sat. and even passed the quiz. I'm legit! Could this really be true?! So excited.

Jenn is a fantastic teacher, super clear, super understanding and really fun. I never thought I'd find coding actively entertaining until Jenn bounced onto the scene. :)

I already paid for my spot this weekend, but have been totally slammed by work. If I give up my spot is there any refund at all? Can I still sign up again for a future HTML class even though I'm giving such short notice?

    • nikki

I will gladly take the spot!

Hi Lisa, Thanks for the note. I'm not sure where I am on the waiting list. Are the waitlisted people at the right of this page in order of selection for cancellations? Any chance I will know by tomorrow if I move to the "Attending" list?
    Thanks!

Hi Maria, to jump in here - it's actually first come, first serve. Meetup will send an email to everyone on the waiting list if a spot frees up and the first member to pay will get it.

I am not receiving all emails for this type of meet-up, although I have signed up for interest in HTML and CSS. As a result it's filled up and the waitlist never seems to work for me

Hi Maria! I'm sorry I did not see your message earlier. Are you getting emails from the meetup group at all? Please let me know. This class does fill up fast. Check the morning of for any last minute cancellations. We run this class often so please don't give up.

Any chance you'll be opening up the wait list? Thanks!

    April 3, 2013

    • Lisa B.

Hi Julia! At this point we are at capacity and so for the wait list to open up would be if a current spot becomes available for some reason. Keep watching your email as wait list spots are first come, first serve. Don't worry, we will run this class again soon. Thank you so much for your interest!
