  • This 2 day Intro to HTML/CSS course runs on Saturday, August 24th and Sunday, August 25th, from 12:30pm to 4:30pm each day.

We're bringing our wildly popular intro class to the suburbs due to popular demand!

Want to learn how to build your own website? Already have your own site and want to have more control over it? Interested in learning to program but want to start small? If you answered yes to any of the questions above, this course is for you!

This beginner course will guide you through the very basics of HTML and CSS and use them to transform a book into a website.

About the teacher: Sarah Johnson has always been fascinated by languages, starting with French as a child and transitioning to computer languages as an adult. She works as a Manager of IT at a medical certification board, developing and maintaining the website, database, and network. Sarah studied Computing Technology at Drexel and continues to learn programming thanks to the Philly tech scene.

    Tech Requirements:

    1. Your laptop. Note: A netbook or tablet is NOT a substitute.
    2. A modern browser with either Chrome and the "Web Developer" extension or Firefox and Firebug installed.
    3. A text editor. We recommend Sublime Text 2 (It's free and available for both Mac and PC).

THanks for coming to the burbs. This is ever so convenient! (My son is pondering but may become an additional attendee. He is a) worried this is an all-girl thing and b) reluctant to let me spend the $. (He's learned thrift from his mother.))

Thanks, Corinne! (He/we're also cheap...single mom job-hunting, skill-building, etc) Maybe he'll come another day if it's something he's feeling passionate about!

    Hi Sarah~

At the risk of shouting my ignorance, can you explain what is meant by being able to use this course "to transform a book into a website"?

    Thanks!

Sure! I plan to teach the basics by applying them to the text of Alice in Wonderland, turning a traditional print medium into an interactive digital format (a website). Does that make sense?

Thanks for scheduling a class in the burbs. This isn't one I need, but I really want to voice my support for this

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
