Civic Hacking Intro Night with Code for Philly

We are partnering with Code for Philly to introduce civic hacking for anyone interested in finding out what it's about and how to get started. You might have heard of some of Philly's newest web and mobile applications designed to solve civic problems and engage citizens: SheltrPhilly Flu Shot FinderBaldwinCouncilmatic, and Open311. These are all civic apps that are built on top of publicly-available government and community data.

At this free event, we'll be discovering active projects and contributing to several Philly-based civic apps. This is a great way for members to improve coding skills through civic service. Adventurous folks might even want to build their own!

Topics will include:

• What is Civic Hacking?
• How to get started Civic Hack
• Open Data
• Hack nights
• Hackathons
• New and popular projects in Philly
• Civic Hacking Frontiers

5pm - Space opens
6pm - Networking/Food
7pm - Intro to Civic Hacking
9-10pm - Commit your projects

Things to bring: a laptop and power cord

Transportation became erratic from where I am - I'm hoping there will be some kind of online information about Civic Hacking and the presentation to catch up. I'm hoping to be at a future meet-up soon!

If only I could be in two places at once, but I'm at a cyber security event. The Code for Philly crew is great so have fun learning what you can get involved with!

I was going to attend, but it is so frigid out this evening! I hope that there will be another in the near future.

Would have love to have gone. Trains out of and into the suburbs are undependable with the frigid temps. Would like to attend if you do this one again.
