Create Mobile-Friendly Sites with Responsive Web Design

The most popular computers today have a variety of screen resolutions, from tiny BlackBerry to Android phones to iPad minis to larger tablets that approach desktop sizes. In 2015 more people will access the web via these mobile devices than with desktop PCs. Responsive design allows us web developers to target all of these devices using simple CSS techniques!

With this class, you’ll build a mobile-first, HTML5 website from scratch with a flexible layout and touch-friendly navigation. Using CSS3 media queries and a little Javascript, we’ll create fluid designs that work across all devices while learning useful design patterns that solve common problems. You'll also learn techniques for responsive images and videos, feature detection to add progressive enhancement to your pages, and methods for testing your designs. By the end of the class you’ll be ready to make any website mobile-friendly, responsive and accessible to all users.

This class requires intermediate HTML and CSS knowledge, and students should bring a laptop with a text editor (like Sublime Text) installed. If you're not sure what intermediate knowledge means, please take our CSS quiz to make sure you're ready for this class. A 7 out of 10 score means you qualify to take this class.

The sign-up process asked if we can lend a mobile device for testing. How would testing affect the device, and what are the security/privacy assurances?

Thanks for the great question! We would simply go to a public website to see the changes on your device. If you don't want to share, feel free to bring and test on your own device.

This class looks awesome. I scored 9/10 on the CSS quiz, so it looks like I'm not such a rusty coder after all. :)
