We wanted to let you know of some changes coming up the pike. First, if you haven’t heard already – we hit 1,000 members earlier in the week. It’s a consequential milestone as we forge ahead in our mission to empower women as they build and strength their technical skills. As we approach our 2-year anniversary this Fall, we’ve already organized 65 Meetups with over 1640 attendees. If GDI has had an impact in helping you get a new position, a raise or even a different career, we welcome you to write about it for the chance to be featured in our global blog. Reach out to us for more details.
As far as what’s coming, we just finished our front-end track and we’re gearing up for more back-end classes and a database track coming this Fall (Psst…Intro to Python will go out today: http://www.meetup.com/Girl-Develop-It-Philadelphia/events/116984252).
As we grow, our management team is accordingly which is why I’m excited to announce our new co-leader Corinne Warnshuis. Some of you know her through events she’s co-organized in the last year or her role as Events Coordinator at Technically Philly. She’s been instrumental in helping our operations and we’re ecstatic she’s stepping into a bigger role. You can find her on Twitter at @corinnepw or you can reach her by email at [address removed]. She will be supported by, Lisa Burgess, who came on at the beginning of this year to help bring you more classes.
In addition, I will be taking a hiatus the next few months as I work on achieving a personal dream of mine to travel the world. If you don’t hear from me, it’s most likely because I’m in a Spanish Immersion school in Ecuador, in the Amazon, or trekking the Inca trail in Peru. While I’m unsure when I’ll be returning exactly, I plan on resuming my position and feel comforted knowing GDI will be in more than capable hands while I’m away.
Until then, launch your own study group, network with other members and have fun learning!
P.S. Have you thought about asking your employer to pay for your GDI classes? I highly recommend it and I share a personal story as well as an outline on how to approach it here: http://www.myasmine.com/ask-employer-tuition-reimbursement
