Would like some advice on how to price out my time as a consultant

Hello Colleagues, I work full time but have been asked to come on board as a consultant for a short period of time. I have also been asked to let them know how much I would charge. Could someone send me some helpful links of sites that offer advice on this matter? or cold someone email me privately with any helpful leads? should i base it on my current salary and figure it out hourly that way? I would really appreciate any guidance! Cassandra

First question: What type of consulting would you be doing?

A designer asked a similar question on Twitter and a member recommended she check out this book: http://www.amazon.com.... It covers pricing, ethical standards, contracts - pretty much the whole gamut. I'm not sure if there's another there that can apply as a programmer.

As a consultant, you should be able to demand a higher premium since you'll be 1099'd and will have to pay your own taxes/health insurance. Do you know any other consultants working in that company or similar ones you can ask?

In general, you should charge twice as much. So, if you would be paid $20/hr as an employee, then you should charge $40/hr as a contractor.

Good luck!
