This 4 part Intro to HTML/CSS course runs on Wednesday evenings: June 25th, July 2, July 9,  and July 16. The classes run from 7:00pm to 9:00pm each evening.

Want to learn how to build your own website? Already have your own Tumblr/WordPress/etc site, but want to have more control over it? Interested in learning to program but want to start small? This class is for you!

We will guide you through the basics of HTML and CSS, give you some readily-applicable skills, and answer any questions you may have along the way.

We will be offering two scholarships for this course for students with financial need. Scholarship applications are now closed.

Your Teacher: Amy Hendrix, Front End Developer

Amy is a Front-End Developer and Open-Source advocate based in Durham, NC. In her years of web work, she has worked with a wide variety of languages and technologies, ranging from HTML/CSS and JavaScript to PHP, Ruby and Python. Amy is dedicated to building a web that is beautiful, useful, and accessible to everyone. She's equally in love with teaching and empowering others to be a part of building it

Tech Requirements:

Your laptop. Note: A netbook or tablet is NOT a substitute.

A modern browser such as Chrome or or Firefox.

A text editor (this is NOT the same as a word processor!). We recommend Sublime Text (It's free and available for both Mac and PC).

You can take a sneak peak at the slides here: http://www.girldevelopit.com/materials. Look for the HTML and CSS core curriculum.

If you have any questions prior to registering, please contact us at [masked]

Refund Policy: Your payment of $80 guarantees your seat in the entire course. Please note that we cannot issue refunds, since there's an overhead to issuing refunds via Meetup.com and we already offer the workshops at such a low cost. We put proceeds into the chapter fund, which we use as our scholarship fund.

Other Disclaimers: Our program and curriculum are geared toward adults over the age of 18; at this time we do not accept minors as students in our courses and workshops.

Parking garage is currently $3 (special event). Street is free. Garage opens at 7, so come a few minutes late if needed.

Hey y'all! Excited for class tonight. Will anyone be coming from Chapel Hill that might want to carpool? I already drove to Durham once today for my yoga class- haha. Okay if not, just checking! See you soon.

If you missed the email about parking:
We will be in the Vault at the American Underground @Main, 201 W. Main St, Durham, NC. Please note this is NOT the primary American Underground location at the American Tobacco Campus; it is about a block away. Park in the nearby street parking or use the deck behind the building at Corcoran St; it is free after 7 p.m. (You can enter before 7, and you won't be charged as you leave later.)

Please be on time for class. The main doors to the building will be unlocked, but we will need to open the doors to American Underground for you.

We are doing Mellow Mushroom. They clean equipment before making GF stuff, but they don't have a separate kitchen. Is that okay?

Hi! I have been waiting for an intro to HTML/CSS class to come up but I am on vacation the first week :( Do you think I would be terribly behind if I miss the first class? Would there be a away to make it up or do you know when you might do this series again?

    June 9

    • Sylvia

You will probably be okay missing the first class if you have some experience with HTML. The first day is basic concepts. You can see the first set of slides here: http://girldevelopit....

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
