JS 203: Working with APIs

An API is a service that lets one website use data or functionality from another website, and most modern webpages rely on at least one API - like the Facebook API for social interaction, the Google Analytics API for tracking, or the DoubleClick API for ads. In this workshop, we'll talk about how JavaScript-based APIs actually work behind the scenes, and give you some hands-on experience in using them, plus introduce you to a wealth of APIs to enhance your websites.

This workshop assumes you have prior knowledge of JS and HTML, like via our workshops or elsewhere.

Please install the following prior to the workshop:

A code editor. We recommend Notepad++ for Windows and SublimeText for Mac.

A modern browser. We recommend Google Chrome (best) or Mozilla Firefox with the Firebug plugin.

If you're interested in helping out as a teaching assistant, please let us know.

Thanks to Disqus for the great location and refreshments!

If you'd like to attend but cannot afford the cost, please request a GDI scholarship.

Please note that we cannot issue refunds, since there's an overhead to issuing refunds via Meetup.com and we already offer the workshops at such a low-cost. We put proceeds into the chapter fund, which we use as our scholarship fund.

Please remember to bring a photo ID with you tonight, as security will check it downstairs. And note that we are at Disqus for this workshop, not at Adobe like the recent workshop. They'll have yummy dinner for us, too!
