Advanced CSS: CSS3

  • Jun 17, 2014 · 6:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

In this evening workshop, we will cover CSS3, both the new selectors and the many new properties and values, like gradients and shadows. We'll also talk briefly about CSS pre-processors and tools that help write CSS3. Just like with our one-day workshops, we'll have hands-on exercises throughout the night.

For any of you who've gone or are planning to go to our HTML/CSS workshop, this would be a great follow-up to that.

If you're interested in being a TA, please let us know.

Thanks to our sponsor Craigslist for the great location!

If you'd like to attend but cannot afford the cost, please request a GDI scholarship.

I feel like I can't really give a fair rating because I had to head out early. It was great to cover this information. When I was there, it was a bit fast for me. I definitely need some time to process/practice at every topic, and would have benefited from a slower paced class. Hoping to work it out on my own time and come back with questions.

@Ann Thanks for the feedback! We'll be splitting it up into 2 classes for next series, so that we don't have to rush. I often forget the more advanced selectors, and re-review the slides every few months. It's more about having an idea in the back of your head that such things exist - and the idea that when possible, it's nice to use alternative selectors instead of so many classes.

Would love a workshop on CSS pre-processors. I know it was briefly mentioned in the slides although we didn't get to it. Maybe GDISF can put together one?

@Rachel Great idea! I'll see if we can organize a workshop on pre-processors for the future.

Could we see that awesome Specificity Chart that ended in nuclear annihilation? Useful and hilarious!

I loved the workshop. It was nice to be introduced to concepts and terminology that seem to not be so frequently talked about. I definitely feel like I learned a few things tonight and look forward to more GDI workshops.
