JS 203: Working with APIs

  • Jul 31, 2014 · 6:15 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

An API is a service that lets one website use data or functionality from another website, and most modern webpages rely on at least one API - like the Facebook API for social interaction, the Google Analytics API for tracking, or the DoubleClick API for ads. In this workshop, we'll talk about how JavaScript-based APIs actually work behind the scenes, and give you some hands-on experience in using them, plus introduce you to a wealth of APIs to enhance your websites.

This workshop assumes you have prior knowledge of JS and HTML, like via our workshops or elsewhere.

If you're interested in helping out as a teaching assistant, please let us know.

Thanks to Adobe for the great location!

If you'd like to attend but cannot afford the cost, please request a GDI scholarship.

Hi folks, Anyone driving to/from the East Bay to class? I'd gladly pay toll and gas for a drop off at my place near Macarthur BART.

I skipped the AJAX class tonight because my local police captain sent a message to neighbors about armed guys on bikes robbing people biking home from BART at night (that's how I was planning to get home), and I'm too chicken to risk it while I'm carrying my computer.

Thanks both of you! Jen - I think my neighbor will pick me up at BART after the workshop with a bike rack (for the 5-block drive home :| because I'm biking to the workshop from BART.) . I'll find you at the class if that isn't true. Pamela - thanks so much for the offer, but muggers start mugging before they know what you got. I found that out the hard way in 2011. So I try to avoid meeting them at all (before thinking about what they might steal).

Hi! I was wondering if dinner will be served, or should we eat dinner prior to the workshop? Thanks!
