Intro to Web Dev: HTML & CSS Workshop

  • April 14, 2012 · 9:00 AM

Want to learn how to build your own website? Already have your own Tumblr/Wordpress/etc site, but want to have more control over it? Interested in learning to program but want to start small? This one-day workshop is for you!

We will guide you through the basics of HTML and CSS, give you some readily-applicable skills, and answer any questions you may have along the way. We'll start at 9, take a lunch break at 12:30, and end at 6.

The course will be taught by Pamela Fox, a local web developer. If you're interested in helping out as a teaching assistant, please let us know.

Please install the following prior to class:

  • A code editor. We recommend either Aptana, which is a full-featured web development IDE, or Notepad++ (Windows) / TextEdit (Mac), more general code editors.
  • A modern browser. We recommend Google Chrome (best) or Mozilla Firefox with the Firebug plugin.

Please note our refund policy: Your payment of $75 guarantees your seat in the course. If something changes after registration and you cannot attend the course, you must notify us at least 3 days before class to receive a refund.

Pamela was a great teacher - very prepared and knowledgeable, and also funny and patient! Also a great group of women. Everyone helped each other and seemed to have fun learning. I learned a TON. Great meetup!

This was an awesome class. I feel like I gained tons of skills in just one day. It was just the right amount of background, specific knowledge and exercises. Pam is an awesome, very organized and expert teacher! Thank you Pam!

This was intense! In an awesome way. I learned more about HTML and CSS in one day than I thought possible. Pamela started from the very beginning, but we went deep into the material and kept us engaged every step of the way with exercises. Great material, great presentation. Possibly the best piece of technical instruction I've ever received. Another great thing was the other ladies there, who are of different levels of expertise but all extremely smart and extremely ambitious and serious about doing something great in tech. An inspiration one and all.

@Colleen I changed it to 9 so we could fit in a bit more, and I've ordered some coffee and such. Please come at 9. See you then!

I can't make this session, but i just LOVE that people are offering cool classes like this. This is wonderful and helps balance out the massive male-female imbalance in programming!

@Xian - We will talk about the history of HTML, including the recent developments, and we'll talk about a few new HTML5 tags as well.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
