It’s been a few weeks since the last newsletter, so there’s a whole lot of good stuff in this one. I’ve been a bit behind because I just started a new job at Khan Academy working on their CS curriculum and I’m excited to share that with you once we have our new stuff ready for prime time. But don’t worry, we’ll schedule more GirlDevelopIt SF events soon!
Twilio, one of our most supportive sponsors, is holding their annual TwilioCon Sept. 17-19th and have offered 25 tickets to GirlDevelopIt! If you’re interested in the tickets, respond to this email with a 1-sentence answer to “What are you most excited about at TwilioCon?”
AdaInitiative is a non-profit organization that holds conferences to help network women leaders in open source communities and promotes conference codes of conduct. To support their efforts, consider donating! https://adainitiative.org/donate
Know Python and want to try out speaking? PyLadies is holding brainstorming sessions for Pycon proposals!
Wondering about privacy and security amidst all the NSA news? Read this fantastic article with a newbie-friendly explanation to encryption and all the tools you can use to make your data more private.
HTML5DevConf training sessions are up, and they’re beginning to sell out. Sign up now if you’re interested!
Google is offering grants to women interested in attending conferences on open source and engineering. Check out the list and process here.
If you’re interested in the HackReactor immersion school, one of our members is holding information sessions particularly for women.
StartupWeekend is holding a weekend specifically for women on September 13th, to get us more involved in startups. I did a StartupWeekend in Australia years ago, and it was a great way to meet new people.
By the way, if you’re ever attending any of the events below and want to get a crew together, let us know. I’m happy to make placeholder events on our Meetup group for you to plan carpools and see who else is coming from GDI. I find it’s always nicer to attend these events with a crew. :-)
If you’re not already a member of Women-Who-Code, join them! Alaina sends out great emails with resources every week, similar to ours (but with different links, so stay on both our lists!)
And now for our regularly scheduled links!...
