Dinner with realestate.com.au (SOLD OUT)

REA Hosted Girl Geek Dinner

Hi All,

In the USA, Girl Geek Dinners follow a pretty awesome format. Girl Geeks go and visit a different business each month and learn more about how they operate and what their vision for the future is.

I'm excited that we have the opportunity to visit the realestate.com.au Richmond office and learn how they use Agile. This meetup includes a tour of the office, a discussion where we will explore your ideas for how the technology industry can attract and engage a higher number of women, and we will conclude with a delicious sit-down dinner at Fenix Events in Richmond.

Tickets are a small cost, $10, to ensure that everyone who says they will attend comes along. All money raised will go towards running events in the future.

Hope to see you there!

Tammy

Information

Join REA Group for its first hosted Girl Geek Dinner, which will incorporate a facilitated fishbowl panel that will aim to engage participants in the notion of Nature vs. Nurture in relation to the selection of a career in IT.

We will explore the specific elements of the IT industry that women appear to be particularly attracted to, and discuss beliefs and opinions surrounding these elements of attraction.

We also hope to provide an environment where you can voice your opinions and beliefs on what companies in Australia, including REA Group, should be or could be doing to attract and engage a higher number of women to developing rewarding careers in the IT industry. Also of interest is how you believe companies like REA Group could better foster and develop the skills of women already within the IT industry.

In conjunction with the dinner component of this event REA Group is also offering an Agile Office Tour of its premises prior to the dinner, which we encourage all attendees who are interested in agile ways of working to attend.

REA owns and operates the leading real estate and commercial property advertising sites in Australia, realestate.com.au and realcommercial.com.au, as well as international real estate advertising sites such as the market-leading Italian property site, casa.it.

Awesome event! So much inspiration and valuable lessons learnt in a short span. That's one step to solving the problem - talking about it.
Thank you REA and GGD for making this happen.

Hi Claire - tried to connect on LinkedIn, but it's requesting an email address. Not sure if you feel comfortable about sharing on here, otherwise it's going to be tricky.

Thank you Tammy for organising such an amazing event, once again! What you are doing to highlight the challenges faced by women in technology is beyond words....you are a true trailblazer.
It's so encouraging to see there are organisations out there that are open to & proactive about inspiring change - wasn't expecting to see it in my lifetime. Feel so privileged to be a small part of it....great to be able to have an opportunity for input into such an important topic.
I thought the speakers on the night really nailed it & I was surprised (dare I say) by their insight.

I'm interested in the tour but I don't get the topic. Are REA looking at training to draw in "the right staff", and fi so what does that mean for them?

    1 · May 15, 2014

    • Tammy B.

Hi Patience, this GGDMelb meeetup will include a tour of REA, a fishbowl discussion and dinner. The theme for the event is an exploration of what companies in Australia should be or could be doing to attract and engage a higher number of women. REA is interested in helping make this happen. It could be that we need to run specific events, provide scholarships, profile mentors in the community... really keen to hear the ideas that everyone has! :D

Oh no! I would love to come but I am seeing Lauryn Hill that night :(
