Saturday, March 8 marked the 103rd International Women’s Day, a global day dedicated to celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women while focusing world attention on areas requiring further action. This year’s theme is “Inspiring Change.”

Since March 6th, SunGard Women’s Initiative Network (WIN) has been hosting screenings of Girl Rising across SunGard offices to recognize the day.  The documentary follows girls in nine different countries and highlights how education has changed their lives and the people around them. The film originated from the question of "how do we solve poverty,” and the answer is "by educating women.”

SunGard has partnered with Comcast Interactive Media (CIM) to bring the screening of "Girl Rising" here at the Comcast Center.

When:  Thursday May 1 from 6:30pm to 8:00pm (101 min )

Where:     Amphitheater, 42nd floor at the Comcast Center

No outside food or refreshment is allowed at the theater, please grab a bite beforehand.

Very enlightening and touching documentary. It really makes you appreciate the freedom and easy access we have to education within the US. And, while I know the US has its own issues to overcome with regards to its education systems we have a great privilege.

I hope they are able follow up with the young ladies represented in the coming years and can produce a Part II documentary.

Thanks for coordinating and offering this event.

Very informative, excellent documentary that was presented very well. It also made me think of my dearly departed Mother whom was forced to drop out of school by her father, to go work at a cayenne pepper factory. She was aged nine and this was in 1940s Argentina.

I can't recommend this powerful film enough. I've watched it twice already and even bought the DVD. It awakens you to the horrors girls face in certain countries overseas and the inspiring stories profiled will moves you beyond words. Go watch it - the more awareness brought to the issue, the more possibility can be created to make a difference.
