Get your Sweet Tooth on early at GGD PHL's Second Annual Sweet Swap!

The Basics

  • Date: Sunday, Dec. 16
  • Time: 10:30 a.m. - we will have some brunch foodies as well as sweet stuff.
  • Where: by the Italian Market (there is a ton of parking); near 8th and Carpenter (exact address and additional details will be sent to those who RSVP a few days before the event)
  • Contact: Dawn ([masked])
  • Can I bring friends? If they are also bringing of the cookies, than sure! (Account for them when you RSVP!)
  • Special Note: There are cats. If allergic, plan accordingly.

The Details: OK. Cookies, good. Brunch, good. Now what?
Here's how it works:

  1. Decide what kind of sweet thing you are going to make.
  2. Email Dawn at [masked] to tell me you're coming and what you are making! At that time, exact address and a phone # will be provided to you.
  3. PLEASE DECIDE BY DEC. 12!!!
  4. Once I know how many people are coming, I will send out a note determining how many cookies to make.
For example, if  five people are coming, we'll make a dozen per person.   If 10 people are coming, we'll make a half-dozen per person.  You divide your sweet thangs into a baggie or little box or whatever, so that everyone gets one.
  5. If you can bring something potlucky for brunch, that would be appreciated. Nothing major - fruit, chips, something.

Last year we had about 10 people and it was awesomeness.  I'll make a couple quiches, including a crustless one for the gluten peeps.  And I'll make a vegetable chili for the vegans that Nicole liked last year with cheese options.

I will be making chocolate covered pretzels and probably some other kind because I'm supposed to be grading finals and will do anything to procrastinate.

HOW MANY VEGAN PEOPLES WILL THERE BE? My batch made enough for 3.5 :P I know Cat and Pam are... if that's it, I'll not worry. If there are more, I will make more. (If anyone sees this, that is -- yes, I know... last minute me. That's how I roll!)

Maybe I'll make more anyways since I have extra ingredients and I can make bigger batches for the ladies :D

QUESTION -- my recipe is pretty simple. I think it might be easy to make vegan friendly portions for those ladies that would like it? Ingredients: milk, butter, white sugar, cocoa powder, pb, oats, vanilla extract.

I know the milk and butter would need to be exchanged for something else. Anything else need to be swapped?

And what do I use as a replacement for the ones to swap?

YES -- I bought vegan friendly milk, butter, PEANUT BUTTER, and SUGAR. So, I'm hoping that

      A) I'm swapping enough ingredients for them to be vegan friendly,
      B) they settle/turn out well (a friend has me worried that since my recipe doesn't get any actual "baking" that things won't "work" right), and
      C) they don't taste bad!

      :D hahaha

      See you ladies tomorrow <#

Oh goodness -- 8 dozen cookies -- I'm going to be a baking machine this weekend! If you haven't decided your kind of cookie, here's a great list: http://www.babble.com/best-recipes/parade-of-vegan-christmas-cookies-25-recipes/ I'm leaning toward making the pillow cookies myself.

how are we going to handle vegan swap? I don't want non-vegan treats since I won't eat them.

Good Q. I'm happy to make vegan goodies for everyone, but I don't need to take non-vegan things home (unless they're chocolate covered pretzels, which will go home to husband)

I'm going to be running probably at least 30-60 minutes late (I'm working overnight, so it's based on when I get off and get home)

I'm going to make cranberry white chocolate oat cookies. I'm happy to bring something for brunch... Dawn, what type of thing (sweet, savory) would be helpful?

I'll be making (vegan) chocolate brownies and I'll likely bring something for the potluck too (biscuits to go with chili?)

Most likely chocolate chip cookies. (vegan)

I don't really bake. Every year I make chocolate covered pretzels, so I figured I'd bring those. I don't think it's the end of the world if we have two of something, right? If it's a dealbreaker, then I'll pass on this event. Let me know. :)
