Mount Vernon Hotel Museum & Garden followed by a Japanese Luncheon

Constructed in 1799 as a carriage house and converted into a hotel in 1826, the Museum transports the visitor back to the Mount Vernon Hotel, a country escape for New Yorkers living in the crowded city at the southern tip of Manhattan. As you wander through the eight period rooms, music of the pianoforte floats out of the Ladies' Double Parlors and the scent of lavender fills the air.

In the Gentlemen's Tavern Room, feel free to take a seat, read a newspaper from 1828 and talk about the politics of the day.  Next, you'll hear stories of the well-to-do guests sipping turtle soup in the Lower Hall as tensions boil over in the Kitchen between the Irish and African-American hired help.

Your tour ends with a relaxing stroll through the Museum's 18th Century gardens.

When you arrive at the museum, please RING THE BELL to come inside since the door is locked. You are now in the lower hall.

Then, go to the GIFT SHOP and pay $7.00 for the tour.

After that, go back to the lower hall and wait for the tour guide (Interpreter) for Ivy's meetup group.

    See you on Saturday!

Sorry you didn't make it. I thought that you could get the #7 train at Willets Point after taking a shuttle bus for 3 minutes and then transfer to the N at Times Square for 59th Street. Would that have worked for you?

      April 13, 2013

    • Ellen

Frankly, wasn't interested in a crowded shuttle. During the work week, I have to put up with all sorts of delays, cancellations, etc. On my own time, I didn't want the hassle.

Ivy why are you on the "not attending" list?

    April 4, 2013

    • Carol

Oh, is this a second group?

      April 4, 2013

    • Ivy

I sent out emails and posted comments that I was able to create a second group for Mt. Vernon just like for Forbes. The Director called me at home today and told me she secured another 'interpreter' for us so that I can have a 2nd group. I am going with the first group of which you are a part, Carol. :-)

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
