PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE WRITE-UP BEFORE RSVPing. DIFFERENT EVENTS WILL INCLUDE DIFFERENT WORK.

Today we will be helping in the outdoor garden, which grows fruits and veggies to be used in the community kitchen and child care center. Once I know what the project will be, I will post as a comment below.

All tools and gloves will be provided, be sure to wear comfy gardening clothes (you will get dirty!). Closed-toe shoes are a must.

If you don't want to garden or there isn't enough for all, there are always odd projects to help with (cleaning, painting, light repairs).

ARRIVAL/LUNCH BREAK
Please arrive a few minutes early, we'll get started at 10am. We will end at 2pm. All volunteers are invited to eat lunch at 12pm in the community kitchen, along with other community members. NOTE: this is not a "soup kitchen" ... it is a community kitchen, open to all.

PARKING/PUBLIC TRANSPORT
The Center has a gated parking lot. It is also accessible by public transportation ... from PATCO, get off at the Broadway stop. Then take a bus to Broadway and Kaighn. From there, it is a 4 block walk (on Kaighn) to the Center. OK to walk during the day, but not at night.

    There is a Plan A and Plan B ...

Nice weather = Plan A: help to plant and weed in the garden. No heavy physical work/digging of garden beds.

Bad weather (cold, rainy) = Plan B: the Center has an inspection coming up, they could use help with cleaning inside. Only sign up if you are willing to be flexible.

Unfortunately, my own garden is way more work than I can handle right now!!

Hope to connect with a suburbian volunteer for the garden center! I live on the Main Line in the suburbs and am looking to connect with a female volunteer.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
