GlobalNet21 Network & Development Meeting

This is will be the next development and networking meeting of GlobalNet21 where we discuss the progress and development of GlobalNet21. All members are welcome to join and take part in this discussion which we are holding at the great venue of Goodenough College. This meeting will be in three parts.

A) We will first hold a general plenary session where we can talk about the general development of GlobalNet21 and where members can raise their own interests and ideas.
B) we will then divide into interest groups to take forward some of the activities that are already being generated for example,

i) the informal learning network group
ii) the advice and support network group

The first of these will have already had two meetings and so they can use this meeting to further develop their ideas and also interact and involve others. The second group has had one meeting and this will be an opportunity to see if we can take that forward.

If you have ideas of other groups you are interested in then let us know.

C) We hope that in the final part of the evening we will be joined by students from Goodenough College to see how they can be involved in our events and especially in the area of human rights. Some may attend the earlier part of the meeting but many students will not be available until about 8.0pm so we will make this the last part of the evening.

Although membership of our site is free we do expect all those who attend our events to pay an annual subscription that covers attendance not just one meeting but also to the vast majority of our meetups and webinars for any one year. It also allows you to bring one guest free to every meeting or webinar.

The subscription is £10 a year for those who commit to a recurrent annual payment for the next three years. During that time the price will not go up. For those who want to pay for one year only then it will be £12 for this year.

Both of the above applies to those who pay in advance by paypal, eventbrite or by cheque. For those who pay at the door or after the event then the subscription will be £15

Thanks to everyone who showed interest in the practicalities of seeing GlobalNet21 (GN21) as a "learning environment". We don't have the human resources to suddenly change GN21 into our ideal of a supportive learning environment, but we can make a start. Let's see ourselves as "learning system pioneers" changing the dream into reality. We can start to connect with other GN21 members who see themselves as learners. We can see how we can help each other on our learning journeys within GN21. As we help each other we'll start to set up systems that will make it easier for other learners to make their learning journeys in future.

Any potential "learning system pioneers" please start think of yourselves in that role, connect with me and together we'll see how to take this forward.

I've written more on this at Pamela's blog http://dadamac.net/blog/20130416/globalnet21-learning-environment (I need to get in the habit of blogging to GN21 site as well - part of my learning journey)

Really good - so much to learn from others.
But I like to see action on serious current issues taken along with Development of Network. Those issues are gobbling up the society.

Hey Pam - just noticed this - hoping to come on Monday but not sure will get away from work in time. Have you heard of "Reflect" from Action Aid - originally aimed at literacy but been extended and developed, VERY interesting approach to how to facilitate groups self-directing their learning and the civic-action related to the learning... I'll send you some links if you're interested,

Thanks Matt. I've "heard of" it, but more info welcome - especially if it is practical and helps me improve what I do. Please send. Or better still go to the April First Thursday space where others can see it, and where I will check from time to time during the month. http://etherpad.opens...

We want GlobalNet21 (GN21) to provide a supportive environment for learning. We've got the vision. Now we need to look at the practicalities including roles and responsibilities and who is willing to make it happen. Regarding content, the study groups will reflect the rich interests of the GN21 community.

Structurally we'll draw on all the opportunities that GN21 offers
to enable study groups to flourish, face-to-face and online.

The group which is looking at learning in the 21st century is both theoretical and practical. The practical sessions will develop our skills and confidence with online tools for collaboration and learning. These practical sessions will be relevant for anyone who wants to make the most of GN21's opportunities beyond the face to face meetings. For more about changes in formal and non-formal learning, including a video, see Experiences of Invisible College in Action http://dadamac.net/blog/20130321/experiences-invisible-college-action

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
