WEBINAR - Digital Globalisation & Community

  • Aug 8, 2013 · 2:30 PM
  • Online Meeting

Globalisation in the digital age has suddenly redefined what we all mean by community. Once it was based on geography and location. We created our communities around our families and neighbours. But now people are creating online communities across the globe that are based on interest rather than geography.

How does that impact on us as citizens of nation states and especially how does it impact on our localised communities of family, faith and neighbourhoods?

This question is increasingly important for us all - for families wanting their children brought up with faith based values, when those children are roving the globe in search of connections and new ideas - for local authorities trying to engage communities locally when those communities have expanded into a complex diversity.

There is a revolution in the very idea of community and this webinar explores this and its impact on families, neighbourhoods and local authorities.

Mike Hardy who is the Executive Director of the Centre for Social Relations at Coventry University will lead this Webinar. Before that Mike was at the British Council where he was Director of Intercultural Dialogue. Mike Hardy’s experience of diversity and cultural exchange has established him as an expert in this field. His interests in cultural relations developed following postings in the Arab world and Asia which led to his appointment to frame and lead the British Council’s global programme in intercultural exchange.

Although membership of our site is free we do expect all those who attend our events to pay an annual subscription that covers attendance not just one meeting but also to the vast majority of our meetups and webinars for any one year. It also allows you to bring one guest free to every meeting or webinar.

The subscription is £10 a year for those who commit to a recurrent annual payment for the next three years. During that time the price will not go up. For those who want to pay for one year only then it will be £12 for this year.

If you are unable to pay online this way can you please let us know and we will make other arrangements. Also we never refuse membership to anyone who is unable to pay so please let us know if there are difficulties this way and you will still be able to join in.

Sounds interesting but I'm unable to attend this webinar as it clashes with a prior appointment.
