WEBINAR - Getting Involved - Activism At A National Level

  • Mar 10, 2014 · 2:30 PM
  • Online Meeting

Following the webinar we held with Ruth Stokes who wrote the book “The Armchair Activist's Handbook," we felt this was so successful that we are seeing how we can run monthly webinars on activism and how people can connect with causes to make a difference. Ruth will be helping us with this.

To start this off we have planned three webinars on local, regional and national activism that we are doing in co-operation with the National Community Activist Network.

This is the third webinar and will concentrate on activism at a national level and will be presented by Fran Boat of Positive Money which is a movement to democratise money and banking so that it works for society and not against it. Fran will tell us how we can get involved nationally so that we can make this happen.

Fran Boait joined Positive Money in October 2012 as the Campaigns and Operations Manager. She comes from a science background, and studied Natural Sciences at Cambridge University, spending a lot of her free time involved with environmental campaigning. After a short time in Tanzania where she volunteered at an orphanage, she returned to Cambridge to undertake a PhD Earth Sciences, her topic was Carbon Capture and Storage. She has also completed internships at the UN in New York and Greenpeace in London. She became interested in economics and money creation after realising that the environmental and global poverty crises we face could not easily be fixed without re-thinking how the current economic system works, and how to redesign it.

You Will Need To Pay Your Annual Subscription to Attend

Although membership of our site is free we do expect all those who attend our events to pay an annual subscription that covers attendance not just one meeting but also to the vast majority of our meetups and webinars for any one year. It also allows you to bring one guest free to every meeting or webinar.

If you are unable to pay online this way can you please let us know and we will make other arrangements. Also we never refuse membership to anyone who is unable to pay, so do please let us know if there are difficulties this way and you will still be able to join in.

I am supportive of the Positive Money theme, so although it did not really address generic actions for activism at a national level I thought it useful, even though I had seen the info before. A couple of comments re money created out of debt a) after yesterday one may have come away with the thought that those who dominate the money system don't understand how money is created - if you dig a bit you'll find out that is not correct, but they go on with business as usual even though it severely harms people and planet. b) Such an important topic has massive financial international implications (The City being one of the main hubs to business as ususal) which was not addressed.

Our Webinar on " Getting Involved – Activism At A National Level.” Is tomorrow at 2.30pm UK time.

You can log on by click on the link at –

    - And this should take you right to the webinar platform. Try to get there about five minutes early so you can familiarise yourself with the system and of course you can check it out any time from now on.

Instead of Fran Boait, Positive Money’s CEO Ben Dyson will be presenting this webinar. This is the third webinar in the getting involved series and will concentrate on activism at a national level. Positive Money is a movement to democratise money and banking so that it works for society and not against it. Ben will tell us how we can get involved nationally so that we can make this happen.

Hi, it is lovely to see Fran Boait involved in this dialogue with Ruth. I was emailing Ben Dyson (also Positive Money) re the problems of money creation before Positive Money came into being. I came to the same conclusion as Fran about environmental destruction, poverty and our economic system some years back, though challenging this system to change is not an easy task!

National activism required free time as a prerequisite which not everybody has.
