This is a Webinar that we will be doing with University of Reading Leadership and Management Team and and Northeastern University in the United States. Their students will be joining us in a discussion around changing global cultures and its implication for leadership especially in education.

This international webinar, focusing on the challenges and opportunities required of the new leaders of the 21st century, brings together faculty and students from the University of Reading (UK) and Northeastern University (US) students as well as participants from the GlobalNet 21 network. Building Sustainable Leadership in Education and Cultural Identity is the topic for discussion and debate. Key questions and issues to be raised in this online session include:

  • How is teaching and learning changing and how has globalization influenced new trends in education?
  • How are leadership models in education affected by globalization and international competition?
  • What is sustainable leadership in education and what does this mean in practice in differing cultural contexts?
  • How do the above factors affect leadership development programmes globally? For example, are we educating and training future leaders who are open to new styles of leadership?

Although membership of our site is free we do expect all those who attend our events to pay an annual subscription that covers attendance not just one meeting but also to the vast majority of our meetups and webinars for any one year. It also allows you to bring one guest free to every meeting or webinar.

The subscription is £10 a year for those who commit to a recurrent annual payment for the next three years. During that time the price will not go up. For those who want to pay for one year only then it will be £12 for this year.

Both of the above applies to those who pay in advance by paypal, eventbrite or by cheque. For those who pay at the door or after the event then the subscription will be £15

    Wonderful input and comments from Global Net 21 members and students from University of Reading. My students truly had a blast (!) as first-time participants in webinar technology and learned a great deal from the experience. Thanks to all, esp. Francis.

    Hi Pamela yes agree on the affiliation element. Interesting perspective from presenter point of view too. I haven't any experience of presenting in this way so not sure what the presenter interface looks like! I agree that it was great to see real time the'stream of consciousness ' ideas that were coming through as the discussion developed

    Very interesting experiment. Francis and the two presenters made it look easy - but that was probably because of hidden hard work and excellent preparation. I failed to cut and paste quickly enough to get details of the person who was interested in Millennium Villages - could anyone help me out? I have a suggestion for if we do something similar in future. Maybe people could include their "affiliation" when they sign in (e.g. John Smith USA) It would have been interesting to know who was one of the USA students, who was a Reading student, and who was GN21. Or if it wasn't done at signing in time maybe we could use three text colours to make the same who-is-from-where point.

      I agree a very interesting learning experience. Not sure about including affiliation... as this is a 21 st century network thing it is nice to participate outside of an official affiliation. Also in terms of commenting etc there are implications to participating in this type of network in your 'formal role'. I agree that it worked very well due to the teamwork between the 3 presenters. I think that the work on thing would be in terms of discussion going on during the presentation . Is this totally free..who is looking at it ? It was very productive in places + kind of gossip in the back row of a lecture in others...maybe some ground rules there ...either one or the other ? Not sure ...very very productive the way it was but felt for Francis who did a brilliant job drawing together threads !

      Ref Affiliation, I should probably clarify. I agree with you about participating "outside of an official affiliation". I meant to suggest that people like you and I would simply put GN21 after our names, and students who came along through the universities of the speakers would make that clear too. Ref "talking in the back row" and ground rules - interesting point. As a teacher I quite like the idea that in a webinar I don't have to control talking in the back row. Instead I can do catch-up eavesdropping every now and again and be influenced by what has been said. I prefer it to waiting until the end for formal Q and A.

    This will be an interesting webinar not just for the subject but also because it is the first time we have involved students from two universities, the first time we have done this internationally and the first time we have linked this inter university online seminar with a wider community audience - so it could be a pilot for things to come!
