Philadelphia: Volunteers Needed for Street Clean Up‏

A message from Margaret Downey of the Freethought Society:

The 2013 Pennsylvania State Atheist/Humanist Conference is fast approaching.

We want to make a good impression on all who attend and travel from the airport to the hotel via Bartram Avenue. There is a ¾-mile stretch that has its share of litter and debris – an embarrassment to the state conference hosts.

Margaret Downey and Al Palmer are coordinating a Bartram Avenue clean up day and are asking for volunteers to gather on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 10 AM. All volunteers will meet at the Ruby Tuesday parking lot and driven to the starting point. The address and phone for Ruby Tuesday are:

8680 Bartram Avenue

Philadelphia, PA 19153

Phone: (215)[masked]

“Volunteer Extraordinaire” Tom Melchiorre will be driving his truck behind the clean up crew using his hazard lights to alert on-coming traffic. He will also dispose of the collected trash.

Bags, plastic gloves and pole stickers will be provided. Volunteers are asked to wear bright clothing.

The group will likely enjoy a Dutch-Treat luncheon at Ruby Tuesday after the street clean up.

Please volunteer by responding to this email or calling the coordinators listed below.

I guess someone has confirmed that volunteers acting outside of the State's roadside cleanup initiative are allowed to do this? I hope everyone will be very careful in terms of traffic or possible injury because I doubt there is insurance coverage for this activity.

I think the permission issue has been resolved satisfactorily. Just be careful out there!
