Share a Recipe for the Holidays!

We are encouraging members to share their favorite gluten-free holiday recipes, such as stuffing, pecan or pumpkin pie, hors d'oeuvres, etc., at 11:30 AM in Draeger's Cooking School. Recipes will be chosen based on a variety of holiday dishes. This is a wonderful opportunity to share how to prepare your dish and tell the group why it is a favorite. You can also submit a recipe without doing a presentation. After the presentations, a question and answer period will follow. Recipes will be posted (upon permission) to our Meetup website for all members to view.

Drs. Vikki and Richard Petersen, authors of The Gluten Effect, and Jacqueline Mallorca, author of the Wheat Free Cook and Gluten-Free Italian cookbooks, will give free lectures and demos. SEATING IS LIMITED, so please sign up online to assure your space. (A waiting list will be available as well). These presentations will be held at the cooking school which is located at the back of the store, adjacent to the housewares department.

Vendors will be situated throughout the store, sampling their gluten-free foods. As always, Draeger's will be fully stocked with an incredible variety of gluten-free foods.

When you RSVP ‘yes’, please state which of the four lectures or Recipe Sharing Meeting you wish to attend:

Lecture/Holiday Food Demo by the Drs. Vikki and Richard Petersen:
Two 90 min. lectures/demos:
First one: 10:00 AM-11:30 PM. Second one: 3:30-5:00 PM

Holiday Recipe Sharing: 11:30 AM to 12:45 PM (Kitchen will also be cleaned up during this time to prepare for the next demo)

Lecture/Holiday Food Demo by Jacqueline Mallorca.
Two 45 min. cooking demos:
First one: 12:45-1:30 PM. Second one: 2:00-2:45 PM.

A ‘yes’ RSVP for the “Share A Recipe for the Holidays!” meeting will save you a seat.
1) Will you be submitting a recipe?
2) Do you feel comfortable presenting it to the group?
3) Send your recipe to me and please state that you give me, Mary Claire DeSoto, permission to post it to the group via the Meetup site.
4) Deadline for recipe submission is Nov. 1st. I will choose 12 to post.

I look forward to meeting you all there!

It was a GREAT day. Mary Claire and Ken Manley should be commended for organizing such a fun GF event. I loved meeting so many NEW GF people and new vendors. Thanks to all at Draeger's ~ I know it is a ton of work and we are very lucky to have your support in the GF world.

Since I've just found out about being wheat/gluten intolerant, it was so very encouraging to see that recipes can be so delicious -- and the cookies! can't wait! Mary, you did an outstanding job in organizing such knowledgable professionals - not too mention the genuine concern they had for the group in attendance. I so look forward to the next meetup! Am so grateful to have had my neighbor inform me about you! Kathleen

I didn't share a recipe, but was interested to hear what Dr. Petersen had to say in the morning presentation.

Excellent day. This was my first gluten free meetup and it was definitely worth investing the day. Loved Jackie Mallorca and Chef Bill--I got a lot of general cooking tips from them along with the specific gluten free information. The day was well balanced with the Petersen presentation and then the food/recipe presentations. A couple of suggestions--at this meeting, the sessions sort of flowed together and it would have been good to have a couple of defined breaks with time for people to walk around, visit the restrooms, etc. More time for general information exchange on products/diets. I felt lucky to learn about Udi bread--what a find! Good quality and quantity of vendors. Thank you, Draegers, for listening to the gluten free community and making an effort to stock foods that we discover. Suggested topics for future meetings: 1) "on the go" food for students, office workers, travelers 2) baking gluten free bread.
